Hi all, I have for sale/exchange one ticket to see Aynsley Lister @ The Robin 2, Bilston on Wednesday 17th March. I paid £10 but I'll take £5 for it (first come first served). Alternatively, if you have anything to trade for it (e.g. a ticket to another local gig?) I'm willing to consider that too. PM me if you're interested Aynsley Lister Band (HH) at The Robin 2

I am no musician. However the two links here lead to two 'virtual pianos' which sound quite good on my little laptop here. http://i.imgur.com/xjyKY.jpg [banner ads removed from the image] Link: The Virtual Piano for Songwriters, Singers, Producers and aspiring musicians And: http://i.imgur.com/GQsVG.jpg Link: http://www.cmagics.com/beta/piano/ This piano does not seem to be as responsive as the first but that could be the fault of my laptop rather than the website. Also seems electronic like the Stylophone as advertised by Rolf Harris in the 70's [showing my age!]

Has just been released... Devil Sold His Soul - Blessed & Cursed - Listen Free Devil Sold His Soul are an amazingly hard working group of guys, and this is an album that shows exactly that. Can't recommend it enough, I've seriously had it on non-stop since monday. Check it out!

Any "indie" music fans on here? Have bought the new Arcade Fire LP suburbs and can't stop playing it. Its ace.... Whats the best LP you've bought this year?

Hi guys, I am wondering if there is a little problem with which you can help me out. We have recently changed our music department over from Mac's to PC's and we are now using the Sibelius software. It took me a week to sort out how I would install the sounds across the network to some 20-something machines, however that has worked but now I have a bigger issue. I cannot seem to locate where the configuration files for the Audio Engine Options are being stored, I need to find out as we have been able to change the settings to get 11ms latency (compared to the 90+ms we had before) however there seems to be: 1) No way of storing these beyond a user's session. 2) No way of delivering these settings to all of the music computers in the music room. Do any of you have any experience with this? I just appear to be at a loss at the moment. Thanks in advance.

I know this is nothing to do with IT, however I have been asked to investigate a low voltage power installation for two new music suites. I seen that some schools have a large DC transformer with individually fused outputs which supply 12V DC to the desk. Has anyone got these, if so do you have any names and specs you could share? Thanks

Hi, I'm looking to buy a IPod music stand for a x-mas present, does anyone know a cheap site to buy one from? Thanks.

Hello Does anyone know if there is there a piece of software that will scan my music (itunes) folder and give me a list of albums which are missing needed to complete the artist's discography? I think iTunes does something like this but i would imagine this only works against tracks in the iTunes store which may not be complete. Ta Darren

So, two weeks before expected my bands EP is now on iTunes globally! http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/the-dead-buried/id338839082 Seems they've been a bit quicker than they thought. Still awaiting spotify, amazon, etc to pull their collective fingers out, but this is pretty awesome....

Hello Our Music teacher has lost her Music Lines for her Smartboard to teach students how to write using notes in music. Any ideas on where I can find a copy of them - including all notes as well! Thanks Rob

Not sure if this has been picked up in other forums but... Apple are/have got rid of DRM music - but have also changed the pricing structure. SOme info here: Apple strips iTunes of digital rights management - Times Online Apple - iTunes - What's New - Download DRM-free music GJE

Up until now, we have happily been using Sibelius 7 with large midi keyboards. Keyboards that are midi instruments, having their own sounds. These are now falling to pieces and it turns out they are really hard to replace like for like. We have been looking at other options, including simple midi controller keyboards that have no playback facilities of their own. We experienced very large amounts of latency due to the playback being via Microsoft Midi Sound Mapper, and were told that we'd need an ASIO sound card. We tried a couple of external USB Midi devices that were recomended by Jigsaw24, but had the same issue with latency. We tried an old Soundblaster (awe32) card, and it worked perfectly; however these are no longer produced, and we need a solution that is a little less hit and miss than buying up old cards on ebay. In the end we purchased an Asus Xonar DSX 7.1 card, as this supports asio. Now if we fire up sibelius, the only device listed is microsoft sound mapper, with it's huge latency. In audio engine options we can select the asus card's asio driver if we tick the virtual instrument box, but then get no sound at all. I'm sure that there must be a solution to our woes that doesn't involve buying very expensive pro level cards for each computer. Is anyone able to offer insight/advice/help/solutions/alcohol? Here's hoping Pete.

We have a large music department who currently share a CD collection to use in classes. What they would like to do is to make the content available electronically so they do not have to carry around a stack of CDs which can get lost/ damaged. The obvious solution is to create a re-only network share, rip the cd's and save them as MP3s. Then lock the masters away where they are safe. The problems with this approach are not technical, but revolve around music copyright. Copyright Having checked our license agreements, and other agreements available to educational establishments in the UK, I can't find one which will allow us to rip a copyrighted audio CD. My assumption is that this is because there is no license for schools and any school wishing to do this for educational purposes needs to contact the individual CD/music publisher. Can anyone confirm whether or not I'm correct in this assumption? Streaming Internet Music An alternative option might have been to use Spotify, but this is only for personal use and can not be used in schools Spotify - Frequently asked questions. CD-ROM Tower/ Server Possible solution, but if you have 30 CDs can take up a lot of space. iTunes? It has been suggested that iTunes may be a solution. I don't have experience of iTunes. Can paid for DRMed tracts be stored centrally on a network share? How does this work when multiple teachers want to access the share at the same time? How does your School Manage Copyright Music? I would be interested in your comments on the above an how your school has given music teachers the flexibility of digital music whilst remaining legal.

I'm not sure if this is allowed, if I'm breaking any rules then mods please excuse me and delete/lock this thread. I have a spare ticket to see Aynsley Lister at the Robin 2 in Bilston on Wednesday 17th March for sale. I paid £10 and I'm sure you can still get them on the site but if anybody wants it, PM me an offer (be as creative as you like, cash isn't the only tender I accept lol) Details: Aynsley Lister Band (HH) at The Robin 2

Hi Everyone how are you dealing with the music requirements in classrooms given that youtube music and spotify are not for commercial use and are not covered under the PRS and PPL licenses ? I'm hitting a wall here as cefm.co.uk as saying we cannot use spotify as its only for personal use we cannot use itunes is also for personal use we cannot use amazon same reasons as above we cannot use youtube to play music as its only for personal use we cannot rip a cd we bought and play it on more than one computer as the PRS and PPL licenses the school hold will not allow for it to be streamed across the school as the licenses rely on music being played from the original copyright purchased source I'm running out of options here, obviously as a school we cannot rely on teachers using personal music accounts to play music and soundtrackyourbrand.com hardly has anything useful, what my teachers want is the pool of music that spotify provides but I cannot find anything that can be used in a commercial environment that has all those songs, some teachers from other schools are telling me they just use spotify, yet that contradicts with cefm says, so we're left with either buying many copies of a cd/dvd or not play music at all :/ your advise and help is much appreciated
