My personal view is that BYOD is yes the future but with the inability to use a mouse on an ipad it rules them out. My vision is: user brings x device in whether is be android, osx, windows, Linux, chromeos anything. User can do the stand alone basic stuff but when teachers/bosses want them to do advanced stuff or use specialist software they will remotely connect to terminal servers/VDI clients. VDI clients are supported on pretty much any os you want or through and HTML5 browser using softwares like ericom vpn etc. Just my 2p

No you can't complain but in comparison to VMware it isn't there (I would use KVM and cloudstack or similar over Hyper-V). I agree VMware need to do something about educational licenses but then it doesn't actually increase usage in there products (like most of the M$ desktop stuff would) as 95% of there products are used in the back end production. Perhaps we should try and get somebody from VMware @ the next Edugeek conference and grill them? Personally I've always told users there profiles are not backed up. Do not save any data into your profile as you risk loosing it. It helps with logon's/logoffs etc

Yup I would second this - FTP is good if you want Joe public to anonymously download files or multiple users to upload. WinSCP is good alternative and removes the need to mess around with FTP if you have opened up SSH to the server.

Personally I think Sharepoint should die. There is some alternatives to this one if you cannot get contact from them both free and paid for. Lots of people on here use MRBS and also Home Access Plus who's booking system looks similar to that. You could also get in touch directly with the school mentioned in the Video as they might be able to help.

First of all I would check that VMware Tools is installed and up to date. I would also remove any software which would be previously interacted with hardware such as some of the HP system manager software etc. These can cause severe performance issues. Do you get any errors with the VMware snapshots that you can post up?
