I don't think that there is going to be any way to list passwords from AD - I certainly hope not. A few years ago you could have used something called L0phtcrack from @Stake, but that doesn't work with modern systems. Think of the security risks. Bill said he was fed up with the whole MAC versus PC thing that has been playing for the last few years, so these adverts are designed to alter people's perception of Microsoft. On my own laptop I use Server 2008 as my desktop - it's great for testing stuff with Hyper-V and you can have all the Vista desktop look/gadgets that you like.

How do you have the time to look through the logs though? Especially with Securus we would need a full time techie to look through all the violations.

Microsoft licenses for schools are more than fair in my opinion. I'd even say underpriced - especially for the server stuff.

I played with it for a while, don't remember too much trouble setting it up, I think I got it as a full distro somewhere, but I am returning to Vista Ultimate which, with a few plugins, just has more features overall.

I use Outlook Express as my news reader and I have never found anything better - including XNews etc. Vista tries to update you to Windows Live Desktop Mail thingy, but even though it's better for email, for news-reading it's crap. Once you install it though, OE is gone forever and you need a clean install to get it back :-(

I *think* that Ghost 11 and Solution Suite 2 are the same thing. (and we've had problems with it too - went back to 8 and everything worked fine (if you have the switches for SATA drives))

Gutting for you. Hate to give you "after the horse has bolted" type advice, but for others, I backup my GMail account by installing Thunderbird and using it's IMAP settings to download the whole account. Detailed instructions are in the help sections within gmail.
