People on NeoWin are talking about it. Apparently it's to do with moving XP IE7 to Optional from Critical. It is there for people in the US, I guess that they screwed up the movement of the International one. Server 2003 will still have it as a critical update due to new hardening rules.

I've just built a laptop up, and done all the Windows Updates. IE7 is missing though. :?

To be honest, it's shocking that DNS doesn't scavenge by default. I can't immediately think of any situation where you wouldn't want this. The co-relation between the scavenging cycle and DHCP scope lease length is important, but I'm not confident enough to tell others how to do it.

Too true - it's pretty nasty alright. Probably one of the worst things about it is that every bit of it is about 80% right. If they'd only get their act together it would be a superb product and if it was say £500 a year then virtually every school in the country would have one.

R-O-B, how long have you had Securus? If it's less than 2 years then I'm going to have to disregard your opinions I used to be 100% behind it too at first, but all the problems have gradually worn me down. Way too expensive for what it is.

I also find the software very buggy. Use it for a couple of years and you'll soon get fed up of the installation problems etc. - Can you believe that it can't upgrade itself properly? You have to do an uninstall of the old version first. meh.

I won't go into the whole "why on earth would you use Winsuite these days" argument as you seem to know them already, but what an odd position for them to take. Surely they must mean "at the moment" or else that will be the end of the product. PS it was a good product in the Windows 98 days.

My network runs fine, but I'd like to get rid of some "errors". I have an ISA2004 as the default gateway. Of course, an ISA limits all types of traffic by default until you open it up. How do I open up the general internal windows infrastructure traffic? For example, when I do a netdiag I get this error: Default gateway test . . . . . . . : Failed [FATAL] NO GATEWAYS ARE REACHABLE. You have no connectivity to other network segments. If you configured the IP protocol manually then you need to add at least one valid gateway. What do I need to open up/reconfigure to make the gateway reachable again? Cheers.

Kyle, when you did you build the original image? We had the exact same problem because we were unlucky enough to take our image during the time of MS's broken WGA tool - 2nd and 3rd of October I think. It was a total nightmare to fix. I spent days on the phone to MS about it and got passed onto various departments. Then all of a sudden it went away, I'm pretty sure that they did something to our key at their end like tell it to always pass no matter what because even they were getting frustrated with it all.

It was still being aired as recently as two years ago as I saw it then - but at a totally rubbish time - 6am on C4 I think.

Overall I thought it was great. Nice to put faces to the edugeek top bods, but I made some good contacts within Symantec, Microsoft, smoothwall and a few others. One day is probably not enough to see everything properly though, next year I may try to go twice.

We've managed to apply the update BUT internal SIMS backup take over an hour now - when they used to be about 15 mins. Very, very odd. :?

Guys, guys, guys. I may have inadvertently kicked off a thread which is turning a bit negative. For that I can only apologise. Research Machines and Capita have formed a partnership to manage BSF in Leeds, those are two of the UK's biggest IT firms, so really, it can't possibly go anything but swimmingly.
