Capita are an easy target and I for one am happy to take that shot. Only joking - It IS good to see those companies posting, but you have got to be honest that that particular post was a bit of a joke - i.e. saying that you would need admin rights to use an MSI, when SIMS needs you to be an admin in the first place, but also when the MSI would be deployed to a non logged on PC anyway. I don't see how Capita deserve our reverence - we've had years of hardship due to their poor products. Or, maybe you believe that SIMS is a well constructed program honed by the finest minds in the industry...

This is bonkers! 8O 1) We always end up having to create our own MSI's which work well, so it would be simple for you guys to do it. 2) increased the likelihood of needing administration rights to upgrade/install. Are you on drugs? You need to be a local admin to run SIMS anyway (I know that it can be possible to be a Power User for some items but only if you alter permissions on some local folders, generally local admin is recommended & easier). But anyway, an MSI would be deployed to "computers" in active directory at startup - not login. (i.e. there is no one logged in, so the installation would use the system account and have all the rights it needs) What a bizarre claim. 3) Interestingly, I've only seen one change request raised by a customer this year to request that we look into the use of MSI installers. That's only because it was a newbie who hasn't had experience of having to deal with SIMS before - you've worn the rest of us down Overall, I think that your post is a hoax - you sound like someone who has never seen or used the product before and don't actually understand how it works. Sorry DSapseid, I'm not 100% sure what you need? You want to allow a certain service outside in to the internal network? What kind of service is this? It may be just that the appropriate protocol is not being allowed by the borough.

No, I'm fairly positive that the ISA should not have the ISP's DNS at all and that all DNS queries are handled by the forwarders (the borough's DNS) on your internal DNS server.

You put your ISA in-between your school network and the borough's router. Your different IP's is actually the proper way of setting up an ISA, as it acts as a barrier between the two different networks. You need two NICs on the ISA - a LAN and a WAN card. Give the LAN card a valid address on the internal network - ie. LAN: IP 192.168.168.250 Subnet 255.255.252.0 Gateway {empty} DNS 192.168.168.1 (your DNS server on the network) WAN: IP 172.21.138.10 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway 172.21.138.1 (your router's address) DNS {empty} Here is a wonderful diagram done on very expensive network diagram software http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/travelcard/ISASetup.jpg The important thing to notice is that there is no direct connection between the network servers/PCs and the borough router. The Gateway on your internal network will then be the LAN address on the ISA. Hope that helps. (Or that no one points out huge flaws in my setup )

He's almost right. SIMS 'can' work if the users are local Power Users, but you have to give them full control to a lot of local folders to work and even then it is hit and miss. Local Admin is the easiest way to do it

DoScan does the startup scan - which version do you use? Can I guess 10.0.359? That was an uber buggy release. Anyway, we blocked it in a software restriction policy until the next release was out. It does not effect the real time protection so, blocking it is not really a problem. Good luck.

It does interact with AD, but you can't see all users until they have logged on which is pants - so if you want to apply certain members to a securus group, you have to wait until they log on until you can see them in the console and then move them. There is a way around this, but it's not something that Securus do 'out of the box'. Point taken If you create groups in Securus exacxtly as they are in your AD (ie year7, year8, year9) and the students are a member of them, Securus will automatically move them into the correct group for you when they log on so no user intevention is required.
