When an EduGeek member fails to get a job one naturally suspects foul play. However, as the OP is also a member, we must conclude it was just the luck of the draw. Seriously though, other things being equal, an internal candidate may have the edge because of the familiarity they already have with the organisation.

I have seen this in a few adverts and I'm curious at what they might be getting at. Most schools have been around a while so that shouldn't really be worthy of comment. Do they mean this school has long standing procedures so don't go in expecting to behave like your the first NM of a new academy, setting things up?

Do you think there might be internal candidate? Pay back with

The paperwork might be easier but doesn't a sole trader have unlimited liability? Hope you've got some professional indemnity insurance. What about VAT or don't you have to worry about VAT registration until your turnover is in the 10s of 1000s? As someone said this brave step at the best of times but doubly so in a recession but at least you've got one big customer lined up. Good luck.

Just a reminder that PSexec and all other WMI based remote control methods carry data in clear text (think automated telnet). Also you don't have access to network shares unless you are willing to send domain logins across the wire in clear text. -
Congratulations must go to Toyota for managing to sneak Jarno Trulli in a milk float in to the race, under the noses of the FIA. Everyone has praised the facilities at the Singapore track but the one thing they seemed to be short of was blue flags

Ah... so you are teacher ... Quick, someone call security

But I thought that was the definition of teaching as many current practitioners understood it

The key point here is that the means of communication was privately owned. The DPA does not outlaw the use of Securus and similar products which may intercept private communications. So theoretically a student could use the phone to send a bullying text or transmit a happy slapping clip under the noses of school staff but a bullying forum post using a school computer could be intercepted. Teachers can still intercept paper notes between students in class (though privately owned) because they are not part of a well organised filing system. Do searches through bags, lockers, coat pockets have to take place in front of police and/or parents if the student has not consented? -
Speaking of continuous service, are strike days counted as a break of service or is non-payment considered as sufficient punishment?

So if I understand you correctly, an employer bares all the cost and liabilities of employee use of a company's email system but cannot specify how it is used? Are employers now required to provide personal email and web access to employees? Is it a case of if you don't take steps to mark out the boundaries of your back garden then a right of way can be established merely by custom?

[closed] missing content: No edugeek in titlebar

edugeek is no longer mentioned in the browser title bar. This means I sometimes have to press Alt+Tab lots of time before I find eduGeek again -
Every now then you see a job advert where they 'call so-and-so for an informal chat'. I am bit suspcious as to why an employer may want to do this when they're going through the bother of a formal recruitment round. Is this a sneaky way of pre-screening candidates before the interview? Actually is there any obligation for employers to keep applications for a certain amount of time as evidence for audits? They can't use informal contacts as way of side-stepping a fair recruitment process? Should I put on a different voice when I call so that if I do make a complete muppet myself on this first contact, I won't be recognised during the real interview. Sure the interviewer will always be left guessing why Frank Sidebottom never handed in an application . He would be ideal for this job .. well apart from that funny voice

No particular grievance in my case. Employment practices in the public sector are normally very regulated I was just expecting more rules regarding the permissibility of internal appointments.

Ah, so it isn't illegal to appoint a permanent post internally just not advisable.
