One tweak would help us though, we'd prefer all the htm files to be in one folder, so instead of: \\servername\logs$\inet\%username%\spy.htm Would it be possible to store the files as: \\servername\logs$\inet\%username%.htm I've had a play with the script, but to be honest I can't really understand how it works. Do you think you could customize it as I've described? Thanks again though

No, not remarkable because it works, but it seems to me a crazy thing to do. It just makes a load of extra work for you because of all the new locking down that you'll need to do.

Cheers Geoff. Our Internet is pretty flaky at the moment, so caching on site would be a great help until the borough get things sorted. I'd much prefer to not use the borough's cache at all but that doesn't appear to be an option. I presume that MS will follow the RFC you mentioned, so yes, that must the reason that our cache is not working.

Yep, that's exactly how mine is set. Do your reports look the same as mine then?

We are using an ISA 2004 server and all the XP clients use it as the proxy in IE. The logs show that almost 100% of the requests are passed directly out to the internet though - the ISA's cache is not used at all (perhaps 1 request a day) I think it is due to the fact that we are using the Web Chaining feature to point requests at the LEA's proxy server upstream. What is the proper way to set up the ISA with an ISP's proxy (which cannot be bypassed, by the way) Cheers!

Right, I must admit that I always give full control to everyone for that kind of thing and deploying apps in AD. I'm never happy with the results of "sensible" permissions - i.e. read only - it just doesn't seem to work properly in my experience

Yep, I had to go through all those a few months ago and combine them into a "Pupil" policy instead of one policy for every configuration/restriction - that knocked about 15 seconds of the logon time I think. Cheers

This is a very interesting thread and it would be great if Quackers created a wiki on how he shortened the logon process. We have mandatory profiles and group policies in a SErver 2003/XP domain. Logons take about 55 seconds, which people do complain about. I followed the instructions to use the default local profile instead of mandatory - but that just dropped the logon from 55 to 51 seconds. I then removed the policies and the logon was 11 seconds. Removing the policies AND the mandatory profile dropped the logon to 9 seconds. So, clearly it's the group policies that are causing the major part of the delay in our instance. I guess that there is nothing we can do about that is there?

I notice this thread was started quite a while ago and people are generally unhappy with, but has anyone on here had any experience with the new orange ones? I've had this too. I think going from the default PCL driver to a postscript one bypassed the problem (rather than solved it)

What do you like about it so much? Firefox can be slow to open because of the extensions, but it's those very extensions that will keep me with it, I believe.

Have you actually tried connnecting though? My home WAP would appear unsecured, but it uses an access control list only, so you wouldn't be able to connect to it.

There are still spaces available on this trial I believe. The more on it the better.

It could be the permissions of the policy itself (who is allowed to run it?) or the permission of the redirected folder. (Pupil doesn't have access to it.)

Windy, as NetworkGeezer is saying, when you copy the profile from the advanced tab do you alter the "permitted to use" box to "Everyone"?
