  1. Hi all We have a problem at the moment with SIMS crashing. The crash happens when our attendance officer tries to save whole year groups data in Attendance. The error recieved when trying to save is "system out of memory". Our SIMS server has the following spec Intel Xeon E5405 2Ghz 8GB RAM 600GB HDD space SQL Express 2008 I was going to upgrade to the full version of SQL Server as it can address more memory, but I was looking for other opinions on this before I upgrade. Many thanks Eddie
  2. We are just about to implement Frog at our school, but we are also looking at email systems. Is anyone using the Frog email system either for Staff of Students? cheers Ed
  3. I tried injecting the drivers for the NIC card, but still the same problem I'm afraid. When I type in the WDS server name and click connect it is resloving the server name, but I just cannot authenticate to it. There must be something missing in AD, but I cannot trace it. I will probably just try to save the image to another drive and copy it to the WDS server manually. It would be good to get to the bottom of the authentication issue though. ed
  4. Thanks for the replies guys, I will give those two things a try.
  5. Hi - Hopefully someone can give me some advice on a problem that I am having in the final stages of sending a Windows 7 image from a reference PC back to the WDS Server. I am running a test environment with the followiing setup: x1 2008 R2 Server - DC, DNS x1 2008 R2 Member Server - DHCP, WDS I am trying to create an image from a W7 Pro reference PC. I have got through each stage of the process without any problems until I have got to the point where you are asked for "The New Image Location". I have selected to send the image to the WDS Server. I have typed the WDS server name in and recieved the challenge for a username and password. I have typed the username in with the following format domainname\administrator and the password. This is default administrator account for the domain. I cannot authenticate with this account. Is there any other user account that I should be using for authentication? Many thanks Eddie
  6. Hi - hopefully this will be an easy one for the procurve switch experts out there. I have all HP Procurve managed switches running in our school, which consists of 8 seperate buildings. I have an HP Procurve 5406zl running as the core switch and a number of 2610, 2626, 2910, 2810 switches connecting back to the 5406zl. We have recently had a Trapeze wireless network installed throughout our whole school covering the 8 buildings. I would like to provide secure guest access to the internet via the wireless network. I thought the best way to accomplish this security would be to create a VLAN for the wireless network. Unfortunatly, Even though I know what VLANS are and why they are used I have not needed to set up VLANs in the past so I am struggling to set this up. I would appreciated any advice or help on a solution for this. Much appreciated Ed
  7. Hi all I hope some of you guys can give me some advice on a GPO issue that I am having because I have had to come in on a Sat morning to try and get it sorted I have recently inherited a network with Server 2003 r2 and XP Pro SP3 workstations. The problem is that students cannot view video or flash content on the web. In place of the flash content we are recieving the following message on the screen: "Either you have javascript turned off or an old version of adobe flash player. Get the latest Flash Player" I have made sure that the client PCs have the latest version of adoble flash player, shockwave and java installed with all the latest updates. When I log on as a staff user, domain admin or local admin all web content can be viewed, but as soon as a student logs on they cannot view the flash content. There are separate GPOs for Staff and Students and I have compared the settings in the 2 GPOs and relaxed the Students GPO as much as possible and allowed all java scripting options, but the restrictions are still there when a student logs on. Maybe I have missed something simple here though, so could someone possibly point me in the right direction? many thanks Eddie
  8. Cheers for the reply Tom We deleted the default AUP when we installed the system as we found it a bit to restrictive. The filters that we have got set up are as follows: Reduce overblocking windows updates custom allowed content all staff all students custom blocked content recomended security rules file security everything Is there still a way of doing this within these filters? ed
  9. Hi - We are running Smoothwall School Guardian at our school. I would like staff to be allowed to access YouTube, but I would like to block students from accessing it. Is there a way that I can do this in School Guardian? cheers Eddie
  10. Thanks for the reply. Are you services integrated into a portal type interface for easy access?
  11. Sounds good!! I have looked into Sharepoint, but I havn't tested it. Are you impressed with it?
  12. where will I find the option to change this Steve?
  13. Hi everyone Hopefully this is the most appropriate forum for this thread. At the moment at our school we are looking at how we can integrate our ICT services so that everything is tighter and easier to use for students and staff. For example we would like to use the least amount of user names and passwords to access systems as possible. We are running a microsoft active directory environment, SIMS for our MIS, the county supplied OWA mail system as our internal email system, which we have no control over at all and Moodle (hosted externally) for our VLE. As you can imagine user management is a nightmare. My plans at the moment are to install our own internal email system and also host our VLE internally. It would be interesting to hear how everyone else integrates their systems and services together. Look forward to reading your responses. Eddie
  14. Hi We are currently using Moodle for our VLE. It seems to be going quite well apart from when a student logs in the entire course list appears down the left hand side instead of just the course catagories. When a staff user logs in everything is fine only the catagory list is visible. Is there any way that this can be changed so that students only see the catagory list. As you can imagine the whole course list stretches down the page for miles Any help is appreciated cheers Eddie
  15. Hi - I was wondering if anyone allows SkyDrive through their school web filters? It seems like a good service that offers anyone with an account several GB of storage space on the web, but are there any possible security risks with allowing this service to be used in school? It would be good to get opinions and views on this. cheers Eddie
