We now have user maps on EduGeek again. The old system used Frappr which required users to register but we have integrated a module for vbulletin using Google Maps which allows you to zoom in to where you live. Its not precise unless you have a GPS but it should get rough areas rendered. I have also included the Frappr map at the bottom so you can still add yourself there if you want. You can find the link on the navbar at the top. Note: Markers are only updated every 15 minutes so after entering your details you will have to wait for it to be generated. Enjoy

I have just added the ability to translate any thread into a selection of languages using Googles translator service. When you click a language a new window will appear and Google will attempt to translate the thread. http://www.cogonline.net/images/tutorials/translate_thread.gif Please note the translation is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate or even close, but usually its not too bad Enjoy

We have installed some blog software for you to enjoy. All users have a blog each if they want. Clicking "Blogs" on the forum menu bar above shall show you the latest posts and to post your own entry click here If you find a user blog you like then you can subscribe to it and receive notifications of new entries. Only registered, verified users can post comments or blog. Create a few posts and have a go of your own blog Enjoy

Now when you browse http://www.edugeek.net you should get our new improved homepage. All the content from joomla has not been migrated yet but it should be complete tonight. New features: 1024x768 compatible Forum posts are instantly updated Login box issues should be fixed Tweaked theme Random Social Groups listed Search the forums box Live Users online Site Stats New avatar style login box Calendared dates shown Todays Birthdays And more to come... Better polls You should now have a mobile compatible frontpage NOTE: This may be tweaked depending on server load so things may get thinned out to reduce queries. Post comments/thoughts here Phew, that should fix a lot of issues with the site

I have just updated us to vbulletin 3.7 beta 5. With beta 5 we get the new Conversation feature; a means by which visitor messages posted between two users on each others' profile pages can be viewed in a unified form. Look for the 'View Conversation' link on visitor messages to use the feature. http://files.vbulletin.com/3.7/conversation.png Also I have enabled the "Your Notifications" menu which should make tracking of social groups and other parts of vBulletin like PM's. You can find it in the top right corner after you login (only when you have a new PM for example) and it provides a quick way to see what pending requests you have. That area in the top right will also highlight itself when you have a new notification until you clear it although this part may be tweaked later. Thoughts/comments? Enjoy

Fantastic work getting the new site up and running guys It's early days and you guys are probably still hard at work honing the design... The front page seems to be a waste of space. The crucial information we all come here for.. the forum activity is even less accessible than before. Then on every thread you have to scroll down to get to the information you need, with all the carp at the top. I'd like to see us adopt a model similar to that of vbulletin site HotUKDeals. No rubbish in the way of the content: Latest posts listed newest first with excerpt, fast links to all topics unobtrusive at the top of every page, and a hot list of the most popular threads.

I have just enabled a new thanks rep system. If someones post helps you out feel free to thank the poster by simply clicking on the "Thanks" button on the bottom right of the post. Each time you thank someones they get 5 rep. Remember also rep is different from rep power, rep power is calculated against the rep you have. Please note if this feature is abused badly we will disable and all thanks/rep is logged. Comments/suggestions here You could even *test* it out by thanking me What the boxes are: They are called vB reputation 'dots': One green dot () is given for every started 100 reputation points. From 500 points on, one bright green dot () is given for every started 200 reputation points. One red dot () is given for every started 100 negative reputation points. From 500 negative points on, one bright red dot () is given for every started 200 negative reputation points If a user has 0 reputation points, a gray dot () is displayed. If a user has chosen to turn off reputation in his UserCP, a black dot () is displayed. How does rep power work: Now for reputation POWER. This is the relative power you have to affect someone elses LEVEL. Your individual power is a calculation based on the length of time participating in the forums, the number of posts, and your own reputation level. So, if you have been here a while, have a decent number of posts, and a good level, your POWER will be higher. Think of this as how you value someone's opinion. You will give more weight to the opinion of a trusted friend than a stranger. You can see your POWER in your User CP. When you give postive reputation, you will add points equal to your POWER to another user. When you give negative reputation, you will remove points equal to half of your POWER to another user. This prevents abuse.

Hi We had reports of a user PM spamming users so I have taken steps to verify the user was not intentially spamming. If you receive a PM you did not expect please PM me or contact us using the link at the bottom of the page and we will investigate. Cheers

I upgraded us to vBulletin 3.7 Beta 4 last night. This allows users to add comments to images in gallerys now as well as upload a background for use on the now enabled, customise profile options. For a example of what backgrounds look like see my terrible example at my profile page. Also now in your profile you can set your country flag and also your region/state flag (if available). If your country/region is not listed please can you obatin a copy of the flag in the dimensions (32x20) and post it here (in gif form) and I will add it. Comments/bugs please post here also. Enjoy

I have created a set of images for user rank based on group membership. You will notice mine says eduadmin on the left. Staff have there own images depending on there groups and then there are members. More "titles" may come later. Comments post here... Enjoy

If you post a link to a google video/youtube etc page then the the system will not automatically insert a player linked to that pages video. Only certain video sites are supported for now but to see a example of this check out the excellent Medieval Helpdesk video. Enjoy

I have installed a mod to allow you to have a nicer image browsing experience. Its hard to describe what it does so I will just show you it in action. Click a attachment below and then use your arrow keys to switch through the images. These images were the first ones I found on my PC so you can ignore the content to a point Currently there is a known bug where signature images are included in the slide effect. Its not too big of a problem anyway at least.

I see the tagging has been turned on. Any guidelines?

I have enabled registered users to access iSpy a monitoring page for the forums. Its a live ticker tape that polls the server for new posts every 20 seconds. You can find the link at the top next to "Social Groups". Ad's are displayed due to the bandwidth used to handle this service. The ads are refreshed every 60 seconds and we would ask that you do not block these ad's to help cover costs. This feature may be removed at a later date depending on load caused by it. Also please note the iSpy page itself will reload after 14 minutes to ensure sessions are still left working. Have a go and post comments here. Enjoy
