Hi Everyone, I’m planning on trying to put together a website for my residents committee (and all owners/tenants) in my block of flats. I’d like for it to provide a website forum and log-on’s for potentially up to 300-400 users. There are 183 flats in my development and most are rented so I’d like to have logon options for both the tenants and owners. Other than the forums I’d like to use the website for hosting minutes of meetings/factoring documents/letters. Some kind of bulk email (for newsletters/etc.) to all users’ would be useful as well. Problem is I really don’t have much of a clue when it comes to putting together a website from scratch. I’ve had a look at 1&1 for hosting which seems like it might do the trick. It offers the option of Linux hosting or MS hosting. I’d guess I’d be looking for Linux hosting and using something free like phpbb since I won’t actually be generating any income from the website. Their mid-range package for £8.99 month offers up to 10 MySQL databases and what looks (to me at least!) like a good range of supported options? Can anyone advise whether that will be sufficient for what I’m planning on doing and whether there’s anything else I should consider or look into before signing up? Any advice appreciated…! TIA

Hi If you open http://www.edugeek.net/forums/ on your mobile/PDA you should see a mobile version of the forums. It is not WML but optimised html for mobiles. Please try posting or reading your posts on the move. If the topic/forum appears in green it implies there have been posts. Please post comments/bugs here. Enjoy

I have just added the ability to translate any thread into a selection of languages using Googles translator service. When you click a language a new window will appear and Google will attempt to translate the thread. http://www.cogonline.net/images/tutorials/translate_thread.gif Please note the translation is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate or even close, but usually its not too bad Enjoy

Hi All, We're looking to set up a forum for parents, which will supplement our existing real parents' forum. They'll access this through our Moodle learning platform, integrated with Drupal to manage the forums, so it'll be secure from the outside world. Does anyone else have an online forum for parents or are you considering it? If so, how are comments moderated - before they are published or afterwards? Really trying to get an idea of best practice before going live with it. Thanks

Hi, I'm new to It's Learning VLE and want to create a forum for my students ready for landing after the Easter Break. Can anyone advise me how to go about this please? Thanks

Hi. I thought it might be useful to share a little information about a session I was involved in today at Microsoft Reading. Twynham School hosted an "Early Adopters' Forum" to try and get as many schools as possible together who had deployed Windows 7 within their schools. The day was very enjoyable and I have posed a number of presentations and a summary on my blog which I thought some people may find useful. They are from a variety of schools and Local Authorities as follows: Twynham School Windows 7 Deployment West Hatch School Windows 7 Deployment Warwickshire Windows 7 Deployments Lodge Park Technology College Windows 7 Deployment Top Reasons and tips for deploying Windows 7 in schools I hope this is useful for some. If you would like any further information please do contact me by email at [email protected] Mike Herrity Twynham School

I have just enabled a new thanks rep system. If someones post helps you out feel free to thank the poster by simply clicking on the "Thanks" button on the bottom right of the post. Each time you thank someones they get 5 rep. Remember also rep is different from rep power, rep power is calculated against the rep you have. Please note if this feature is abused badly we will disable and all thanks/rep is logged. Comments/suggestions here You could even *test* it out by thanking me What the boxes are: They are called vB reputation 'dots': One green dot () is given for every started 100 reputation points. From 500 points on, one bright green dot () is given for every started 200 reputation points. One red dot () is given for every started 100 negative reputation points. From 500 negative points on, one bright red dot () is given for every started 200 negative reputation points If a user has 0 reputation points, a gray dot () is displayed. If a user has chosen to turn off reputation in his UserCP, a black dot () is displayed. How does rep power work: Now for reputation POWER. This is the relative power you have to affect someone elses LEVEL. Your individual power is a calculation based on the length of time participating in the forums, the number of posts, and your own reputation level. So, if you have been here a while, have a decent number of posts, and a good level, your POWER will be higher. Think of this as how you value someone's opinion. You will give more weight to the opinion of a trusted friend than a stranger. You can see your POWER in your User CP. When you give postive reputation, you will add points equal to your POWER to another user. When you give negative reputation, you will remove points equal to half of your POWER to another user. This prevents abuse.

Hi You should notice a new similar threads box that appears when you type and subject in on the creation of the a new post. We hope this will help prevent duplicate posts but it is in testing so we may remove it in the future. Please post any comments/bugs here Cheers

Hi All, This morning I clicked on my favourite to have a quick browse of EduGeek before I started my day. I was presented with a nice little box informing me that there was an app that I could browse it on. I thought wow and downloaded it cos I had been waited for ages for this! I paid for it and installed it, but I can't find EduGeek on it anywhere ..... Has anybody else downloaded this at all or have found EduGeek on it? Tom

Tapatalk - Forum App on the iPhone, Android, Nokia, and BlackBerry for vBulletin, phpBB, IPBoard, and SMF Is it possible for this to be done to allow access for us on our mobile devices? Iphones, android etc. Just a thought, but it would be useful.
