  1. That is just ridiculous. As if we have time or want to change a user passwords more than we have too. There is no personal benefit from it. I wouldn't justify them with a response. I wrote a ps script which emails user and cc the it support mailbox a reminder that their password is due to expire within 7 days. This wont help you now but you will be able to start a log. Im off work atm but Let me know if you want to post my script and I'll grab it for you
  2. Have you got the name set in your answer file. WDS should manage the naming of your workstation however if you have a name specified in your answer file it will override it. Remember if you change your answer file you need to reattach it to the image for the changes to take affect. Then reimage your machine again
  3. Try changing your sata configuration to ide in advanced bios. It may work with a reboot but you may need to reimage it again.
  4. I have tried removing printers via gp before and don't think the driver is uninstalled off the client. I started to do this and thought there must be an easier way. So I scripted it using printx.exe /f switch if I recall then used scripts on a logon script. You would need to enable the policy loop back option set to merged.
  5. Check your Routing rules Check your smoothwall isn't blocking the ports. On smoothwall try opening all port (very temporarily just whilst you test it) or if you want to be safe unplug your Internet connection whilst you test.
  6. Physical dpm server here with online protection to azure. Protecting all my vm's as well as data protection
  7. I would say that would depend on ap density in an area. I would suggest -65 to -70 I would download a wifi app that measures the signal strengths of each individual ap and determine the overlaps of each. No point setting -65 if you have 5 neighbouring ap within that radius. May be consider turning your transmit power down in higher density areas. Think it may be a trial an error
  8. Thank you for that advice. I will look into implementing that upgrade and change tomorrow.
  9. Average sized secondary. 1500 users. We have 50 ap spread across the site and yet roughly 500 clients per day majority byod. The only issue I have with them is the handoff on to another ap. the ap hangs on to the client for as long as possible rather than active searching for the best ap. Not a problem for byod but for domain laptops it can cause a few issues if on the rare occasions the user decides to go on a walk about with the laptop.
  10. I agree capita are expensive however the sims manager got some sort of combination deal which made them cheaper. We were having tonnes of problems with SIMS performance and the rep turned up at the wrong time and receive the frustration of our SLT, ended up cutting us a deal. not sure whether the deal was a first year discount or annual discount, as we do receive on occasions rebates. knowing what the school is like with getting best value i can not imagine them going for a more expensive option at the time if you dont mind me asking how much do you pay for Sims, TASC and SchoolComms?
  11. Sorry have to check. You have got ie 10 or 11 installed on your clients. There is a different policy settings for 9 and below Run gp wizard in group policy management. Log on to a computer with the desired user then run the wizard selecting the same computer user combo and it will give you a report of group policies applied which one is the winning group policies and any error conflicts between them
  12. With parental communication we use InTouch and sims learning gateway. Both capita modules, which integrate well but also have the known problem for what capita is known for. Slow slow slow. Slg is built on sharepoint so slow and InTouch gui is frustrating at times to say the least. However staff have become use to it and oddly i think it reduces the mistakes made. as slow as it is, it is stable and reliable. Do you think this capita design model when building modules
  13. For how easy wsus is to install you can kill many birds with one stone. As I was planning on updating the servers to 2012 I retired my 2008 wsus server. You could assign the role to another server if you are limited to physical servers. We are virtual so had the freedom to boot up a clean server. Just install configure with update classifications you need and change gpo took no more than 30 mins. This will also clear out stale updates that are no longer used by any client. You could probably do that quicker than looking through 4000 odd updates to decline and clean them all. You know you have a clean server, clean database.
  14. Thinking back we also had an issue where random vms would show latency and become not pingable but still remain online in hv manager. are the hyper v network cards broadcom adapters? Read https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2986895 . It doesn't exactly match your symptoms but may be a contributing factor.
  15. We had a similar issue at a primary school. Single hyper v server showing network latency across all servers. Turned out to be a faulty vm. Check your hyper v nic driver is upto date. Down all your vms and see if the latency stabilises. Power on you vms one at a time to see which one screws things up. Sound like you may want to start with your print server if that is showing abnormal behaviour. If you do narrow it down to one server back it up and delete the vm and recreate it as a new vm (not imported)
  16. I must be mistaken. I thought they had merged or done something with someone a couple years. My apologies. Anyway we use vericool
  17. Vericool but I believe they are now part of nationwide
  18. Armed intruders? Where do you work? Sorry but I would think your front desk will have other ideas, mainly not trying to sh*t herself whilst an armed intruder is in front of her/him. I doubt an all staff notification of a code whatever will be on her mind
  19. We had similar issue where it turned out staff were pressing the win p key and/or fn f# on laptop and weren't admitting they had when asked. With some I an sure it was intentional but other were trying to print thinking they were clever or something confusing ctrl p as the shortcut. I only caught one user out as I was monitoring her lesson and she stated that she wanted to print at the time. It was a face in palm moment. I was truly speachless as i explained to the teacher she was triggering "ID Ten T" protocol. I never applied a fix as I now know what they are doing You may be able to block this shortcuts. Google it and try it out. If it stops occurring then you know the problem is stupiduty
  20. If you want any help setting this up feel free to pm me if you have questions
  21. Is it marketing material or spam? If the first than teach her to start clucking the unsubscribe button at the bottom of each email. They will soon die down. We have so many user sign up to marketing crap that a created a spam mailbox and regularly send an email out raising awareness of the mailbox. When my technician is bored I ask him to go through and unsubscribe teachers emails from the crap they sent to spam. Iv done it myself It oddly quite nice having the sense of achievement watching the users average daily incoming emails dropping. Not sure how much control you have on this with o365. We have an onsite exchange.
  22. Our controller sits on the same vlan as our switches then the ap' s have their own management vlan and then we have two ssid (clients and byod) who each have their own vlan. I think it's personal preference really if you have the resources to achieve it. Some networks may not have the ip range to accommodate a wide segregation of vlans so some consolidation may be necessary to keep it tidy
  23. My main site I support use vericool that became nationwide for the past 5/6 years. We had a number of problems in the early years but in the last couple years has become a stable system and support is always good. Hardware is quite expensive though. Epos @ £1500 each and reval @ £2000 each. I was supporting another school that had cunninghams and the one occasion I have needed support it was shocking.
  24. Lol we all been there. Glad you have it sorted
  25. Can you describe what you mean When you say the website doesn't work. Does it show parts but is not render correctly, or is it a blank screen, error 404 etc. Is it an internal website? What happens if you trust the site or specify it as intranet. Are you behind a proxy that may be Web filtering the other user. If you do have a proxy try logging on as yourself but enter the other credentials that the website doesn't work in to manage network passwords. And vice versa. What is the result?
