Hi, Have a computer on one subnet trying to print to printer on another subnet, but "printer is not responding" when print job is sent. The set up is: Router on 192.168.10.0/24 with connected printer using 192.168.10.49 The router is connected to a second Router's WAN port, and that second router is providing 192.168.20.0/22, which has a computer connected to it 192.168.20.50 OS X Computer 192.168.20.50 can ping Xerox Printer 192.168.10.49, but can't actually print to it. Attempting to use IIP printing protocol, since Bonjour is no good over subnets. If computer can get ping response from printer, why can't it print to it?

Hi. Need some advice guys. I work for the local LEA in a school. as you can image we are on a 10.X.X.X private address range and on a subnet of 255.255.255.0 giving me 254 IP addresses for our school. Now here is the problem I'm having: I have implemented a new wireless solution but the problem is with various gadget and devices that are connecting to my network taking up most of these addresses. I want to know if there is anyone out there who is in a similar situation as me, I really do not want to ask our LEA networks team for another IP address range giving me another 254 address I want to be able to manage my own IP and subnet range instead of going back to my LEA, can I create my own private IP address range on a subnet, say for instance 255.255.0.0, giving me more scope for IP address? what I don't want to do is create a private address that will cause conflict not only for us but for the LEA too. can this be done? or will I have to go through the LEA Networks team. btw im running a W2k8 R2 Server environment with with a dedicated server dishing out DHCP & DNS Windows 7 clients with mixed android and ipad devices any help appreciated thanks

Hi guys. Our school is running out of IP addresses. Currently we have 254 IP addresses. Our server runs on Windows Server 2008. I requested a bigger range of IP addresses from our network provider. They told me that they have changed the subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0 and now we have 510 IP addresses providing I configure our end. Does IpV4 supports that amount of addresses or do I have to change to IpV6? I have never done this before and I just wonder how to do it.  Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

For a while now we have been testing various Classroom Management systems after outgrowing Ranger. We have passed NetSupport, NetControl and Smart Sync over our test network but for various reasons we have not settled on them. Only since joining this forum has AB Tutor and LanSupport come onto our radar (probably not a lot of advertising in Australia). Out of the two it seems AB Tutor has a huge fan base and V6 sounds fantastic. So can I ask whoever is running it if they think it will work in the following enviroment? We are a school where teachers are supplied a notebook and students have their own notebook. So there are no "fixed" computer pools but each classroom is equivalent to a pool. Teachers connect via a 1Gb wired connection and students via an 802.11n network (300Mb). Teachers and students are on different vlans but stay on them (ie. vlans do not change when roaming). We use Procurve switches which I believe do not multicast across vlans without the purchase of an expensive license. So is it possible for a teacher to pull in a "class" at the beginning of a lesson without relying on students to connect manually? If the answer is no, then is it possible with students connecting manually across vlans? Your answers may lead to other questions but thank you in advance for your time. We are looking at around 70 teachers and 750 students.
