One of OneDrive FoD's most annoying "features" (thanks, microsoft!) is how Windows perceives file sizes for the downloaded placeholders. So, when a sharepoint library or Onedrive account "syncs", placeholders are put in the users' local profile areas. Not a problem, however the file size also shows true. This causes a lovely irritancy of seeing things like 1TB of data on your 120GB SSD, however the actual problem is manipulating those files. Deleting a profile takes an AGE as a result, and Delprof just either fails or the computer gets shut down before it ever gets a chance to finish; particularly on a shared PC which might have multiple users who have all "synced" a terabyte of data. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour or found a way around it? It's not the end of the world for the majority of staff on their laptops as it's only them using it, but on shared devices, drives are actually filling up because delprof doesn't work.

If it's deleted, it's deleted - no questions asked, it's beyond the scope of the SAR.

That last "local provider option" - is that a standard business setup? Contention etc as opposed to a leased line might be a concern.

This appears to differ massively from LEA to LEA, regardless of whether the school is an academy or LEA controlled. Firstly, absolutely separate PP from LAC - very different. Pupil Premium funding is designated to the school for a particular child and the money can be spend on whatever the child is in need of - could be tech, could be manual implements, extra books etc. LAC funding at least for us is directed by the LEA, although purchased by us. The devices are handed straight to the pupil via the LAC coordinator, we provide advice on them and nothing else. Repairs, issues etc via home insurance first and foremost, but they would be directed to a 3rd party for repairs, likely via the LEA contact. There is no filtering or monitoring as the devices does not and never has belonged to the school, it is a personal device, even if used in school (here it should be treated as any other BYOD)

I'm going to take our old SIMS server out to the field, with a large Capita/ESS logo stuck on the top, and leave a selection of bats for certain staff to have a go at it with when ours goes. Don't worry, it will be properly WEEE recycled afterwards! Unrelated - if anyone has a stock of Thermite, I'll be in touch (suddenly remembers Colin Furze is just up the road...)

I think this has been brought up before, but it would be vastly appreciated by possible candidates if you include an actual location - a county isn't exactly helpful!

To be perfectly honest, there has to be a point where you draw the line. Just say no - if they want no internet, make sure they're invigilated to that point correctly. Not everything has to be a technical solution.

Some interesting takes on this certainly. One thing that it's worth mentioning is that CCTV, like many other methods of processing personal data and privacy, should be pretty much a "last resort" - the risk assessments involved all ask if other methods to achieve the same goal have been considered prior to going down the chosen route. Open plan, unisex toilets, "unfashionable" music playing; some cracking ideas! Although for the latter, how bad does it have to be? Generally what we find bad, they find good, and what they find bad, we find good! (I dread to think of the issues should we start blasting Vengaboys!)

That's a very loaded question. The best overall question to ask unfortunately is "Do they really like SIMS? Find out how best to get rid of it." That's sort of meant in jest, but in the current climate it might be the best possible time to look at moving them away and an ideal opportunity to do so. However: Updates - is it updated and patched? Is it on a supported operating system and SQL server version? Are backups working and tested? Data - is the data accurate? Database diagnostics should be able to help with much of that.

That's not too bad then; and the key there is transparency and communication to involved parties. Do you get many new intake parents asking about it? Is the view physically confined rather than blanked out via software? I suspect the latter would be the no-go area for me, just in case - if a camera can't be moved to view something it shouldn't then you are on excellent ground should someone kick up, but if X member of staff can access and unblank a part of the screen, that's a possibility most won't take!

"little rascals" is very diplomatic! We spotted something vaguely similar a week or so ago which was down to DHCP (which in turn affected DNS) which was indeed down to a windows update - in our case it was failover replication to the other DC's which fell and broke lease reservations. I've just had a rootle through my browsing history to find the resolution but I've also just realised just how many sites I frequent in a week - needle in a haystack! Edit - found it. Is anyone using Canon print services at all? Struggling to find an appropriate type 4 UFRII driver other than a very basic generic one which doesn't have the required options That's for an irc-adv5255 MFP. The generic driver works but it's just too basic compared to the type 3 "UFRII Generic Plus" driver.

No, and it shouldn't be considered anyway. Teachers are not only responsible for their class, period!

Ipevo house here. We had issues with the micro USB ports on the initial batch as they were too weak. I asked Ipevo if they could do anything, then whilst in conversation found they were just out of warranty. Unprompted, they sent me a new model with USB C connector to take apart and see for myself the improvements made (they had reinforced the connector massively) and I have been massively impressed with their support and service as a result. The cameras are excellent quality, good features and double as wonderful quality webcams

There are countless alternatives which they would be forced to use as a result - net gain.

Can I take the opportunity to add that the CET IT team is great to work for, highly supportive and are very staff-centric. A great opportunity for a foot in the door!

I suspect people have expected more from it, particularly in comparison to it's "predecessor" of Impero, which would cope with 5000 easily. Having to pay twice to do something many of us are accustomed to in the same package seems OTT - especially when the main function for doing that apply to remote support AND T&L (remote viewing, broadcasting, messaging, safeguarding etc)
