Indeed it's odd that someone would choose to move to SIMS from pretty much any other provision, especially if things like this were not picked up and tested before signing up. If it isn't fit for purpose, why are you not bringing it up with both SLT and SIMS? Why should you pay extra for something SIMS should be doing properly?

Lots of schools in our vicinity use them and they're all decent quality with excellent uptime, which usually means they're doing something right I agree with the above though - there are very, very few instances where any school website is the first port of call any more and it literally serves as a box-ticking Ofsted compliance exercise and for Google's spiders to do their thing. Of course a few people will still look at the website first and foremost but MASSIVELY overshadowed by social media, where efforts should be concentrated and where you will find the day to day goings on. HOWEVER - budget spent on a website by an education site specialist is money well spent regardless because it might only provide one bum on a seat, but it only takes one bum on a seat to pay for it.

A couple of our teachers have recently noticed they are no longer allowed to select multiple students in the register to add things like behaviour points. This has only occurred in the last few weeks and may possibly be a result of a recent update or patch, but difficult to pinpoint it. Has anyone else reported/noticed this?

Yeah, after midday things seemed smoother. Doesn't excuse the fact that the system is farcical and their support of it is even worse. Cookie cutter responses from them on social media; it's supposed to be the world's premier education setting, yet doing this to staff and prospective students is really, really taking the mick. Consent. It would be courtesy to say "I've fitted X device, do you have any concerns?" - it can be for their benefit too, they may however prefer the privacy and ask for it to be moved or blanked off. I agree it may be a little over the top on the ruling, however the audio thing does run true and a good reason why for general surveillance devices audio recording is avoided entirely. Plus signage should be in place - do Ring kits come with the appropriate signs?

Twitter is easy enough - we do this easily with a central account for us and the 6th form they do the same. Again though, it's staff managed. Instagram however, as it's part of Facebook is a slightly different kettle of fish - not sure if you can sign up to it separately to Facebook but if not, just avoid it like the plague as it's personal accounts linked to a page.

Yup, that's it I'm afraid. One day they'll get it right. One day they might actually listen regarding a properly deployable app/MSI. One day they'll negate the need for either with a cloud offering.

Yeah, meant 4k as the screens are that natively - and yeah if the laptops will only output HD then definitely will only output at that.

Any improvement if you drop the display resolution to HD rather than QHD? I don't think it's resolution related personally as we have issues with long VGA runs on our dells but as suspected GPU output power may indeed be a possibility.

What models are you using please? We're running Lenovo L14's which appear OK but our latest batch, Dell Latitude 3420's are really picky. They won't even entertain any of the few classrooms we have left with older projectors and long VGA cables and certainly a few of the prometheans with slightly longer runs appear to struggle.

Rock solid here too - don't actually like the wireless but it sort of works. Switches are absolutely solid, 10G throughout. Only utterly diabolical setup is if you have switches on aruba central - a big no-no.

Ah yes - some very good points there. Do also provide details of the year and be prepared to be asked for serial numbers - this may provide information to the buyer like what revision mainboard is inside. And with batteries, particularly on very old stuff they can leak and literally eat through PCBs like it was nothing, so check for residue on cartridge connectors and around any machines you have.

We're still averaging a dozen a day. First week back it was nearer 30-40 a day. Few systems and username changes though, and a lot of staff and students with the inability to follow simple instructions! (many students who literally don't know their own names or other vital information that the average child can write fluently from the age of 4)

I would avoid ebay like the plague these days. Go for a real auctioneer, there are indeed plenty that specialise in that. Our local auctioneer isn't a specialist but more often than not retro machines and games do go for a large amount, so other larger auctioneers (usually ones that have certain types of auctions on certain days) will easily get a lot more interest as people will be specifically looking for that.

Best bet would be to auction off - retro gaming is huge these days (into it myself but as I'm broke, my collection is a few old machines and a load of SD cards full of roms). Really are best off sorting into each type though, so that way there are bidding wars over people who actually want the whole lot rather than buying bulk just because of one small section which will limit your chances.

To be honest, at that size it would have to be Aruba. Don't get me wrong, I love Unifi and would still have preferred Unifi over our now massive Aruba installation (and that bloody awful Aruba Central) due to it's ease, but for a large estate with portal auth etc you almost certainly should plum for the higher end enterprise level gear. Very different setups of course and probably a good £10k price difference between them I imagine!
