We're going to Senso (we have been for the last year) but it just doesn't work on it's own in the same way. We might be expecting too much from it, but it still just isn't ready in our opinion.

The exam boards now only recommend it's not used on work devices, and no longer actively disallows it. It seems to be OK for us installed normally but not on the school's internet connection, which they're more than happy with for working from home.

Hi all, Is anyone on Arbour involved in assessment data at all please? The assessment tracking (ATL) is extremely limited compared to SIMS and our data manager is worried about the impact this may have once we migrate over. Does anyone only use the basic assessment abilities that Arbour comes with, or do you use any 3rd party tools?

Unblock the abortion category - there's no reason for it in the UK anyway and you can still keep it in the safeguarding reports so you can keep an eye on possible safeguarding concerns.

Whilst it's a great idea to involve the legal team, they have no say in the output of an SAR. They may be able to advise from their experience, but the SAR is a legal request between the requestee and the school, even if it's being made on behalf of the requestee by their legal representation. If that legal team is not part of the school, you'd then need to get consent to involve them. The ICO will be the best bet for advice, however they will sit on the fence as much as they possibly can, making sure the onus stays directly with the school to make final decisions but they will try and guide you in the right direction because they understand that they can't offer a one-size-fits-all answer to many queries.

Indeed, this is something your DPO should be handling anyway. As long as everything is correctly redacted there should be nothing to worry about - the DPO should be documenting what has been redacted and why, and as long as they can show the ICO those reasons, everyone is happy as far as the law is concerned. To re-iterate though, if they request all email communication between 2 parties, then it does mean all and context is not relevant - after all, you nor the data person might be in a position to know what the context is - an email inviting someone to lunch might seem innocuous but it could in fact be vital to whatever complaint is happening.

Hi, 1. Yes, they asked for all emails within that range, so all emails is what you provide. Relevancy, is not relevant 2. No consent required for emails with other data in as anything identifiable would be redacted.

Just worth mentioning that stock for most Ubiquiti lines is diabolical at the moment (similar story for many manufacturers). Happily though I was able to source the NanoHD models which are awesome little access points! ** Edit - thought I should add, those were from 4Gon although MSDist also had stock of the nanoHD.

Have CPOMS given any particular reasons for this out of interest?

A vast majority of schools I'm aware of using MyConcern are shifting off of it for varying reasons (I can't stand it personally as it's always too worried about letting you know about new features than letting you log a concern), and most appear to be shifting to CPOMS. Sometimes SAML/SSO isn't always the answer and when things are involving safeguarding, it may very well be better separate.

At 17 years old, I would strongly suggest having replacement investigated. Yes it's a massive cost, however if you're having noticeable issues then it could indicate possible faults elsewhere, either current or soon-to-happen. Plus it will absolutely not be to current standards regarding performance and fire rating. At the very least though, get someone professional in rather than wing it with what you have even with decent tools to carry out a complete survey. I've had to do this recently at a primary school I work for after noticing some dodgy joins in cables which were apparently done by roofers when cutting through or damaging cables. The one I found was furthered by another dozen around the school by the engineers and the difference in performance even though it's gone from gig to gig (although switch interlinks were updated to 10gbit) is staggering. Even with the best diagnostic equipment available and some vague sense of knowing how to use them, I wouldn't have been able to trace and find all of those.

There are known issues with many of the generic stations due to the USB to Network adapter in them (a certain chipset maker cheaped out by using an old ethernet protocol to make it behave over USB and that protocol, when followed correctly by many switches, causes network wide issues related to the PAUSE command). I don't know if a list has been made of the chipsets or the docks that make them but for now I'd strongly suggest sticking with the large manufacturers if you possibly can. We're moving towards the Dells (away from Lenovo who have been less than reliable so far!)

Won't make the slightest bit of difference frankly, as you can't see into the future. A DVD will probably be your best bet but they will deteriorate like just about anything else would. Personally, I'd go for the irony of making it a Shockwave Flash file.

Just to add, we've tried fresh installs plus in place upgrades and SMTP is a gonner in either scenario. We ended up using 2019 instead, although it's always worth checking other services you may have that can run relays such as the majority of routers, smoothwall can do it etc.

Stay well clear of tiktok, but do make an account to "secure" your school name if possible. Stick to the usuals - twitter, facebook, instagram and linkedin but market appropriately - what works for one platform may not be appropriate for another.

Yes - I've used FS.com kit and have been suitably impressed. It's obviously "whitebox" hardware not too different to what you'd get from Mikrotik. In fact, I am kitting out a whole primary school with fs.com hardware this coming Easter Stackable, 10gbit switches and POE everywhere for the cost of a single Aruba switch, and unlike some of the other efforts at the same price point, a reasonable warranty. It's not lifetime HP warranty, but for the price... Caveats - Stock, like anything is sparse but their lead times are better than most. You have cat in hell's chance of getting anything recent from UniFi this side of 2023, so unless you're planning and ordering well in advance, just don't bother. We found Mikrotik similar. However, Aruba have just released a "budget" hardware line, I can't recall the models etc but it's white, 10gbit capable etc and very similar in pricing & capability to the Unifi and FS.com offerings. Certainly worth a look IMO.
