To add to this as an end user, like a lot of products the functionality is there, it's just not particularly great for either end users such as safeguarding leads or for IT. Fastvue literally just puts it all together in a way that any layman can use. Smoothwall has an advantage as an edu focused product but even that could do with a FastVue touch IMO!

May be some difference in expectation between older AP's and new ones - modern wifi 6 is generally down to 1 AP per 1 or 2 rooms depending on the makeup of the rooms, walls and ceilings. One of our older Unifi AC Pro covers 5 times the area of one of our newer Unifi 6 models. Nearly all CtC funded programs are 1 AP per classroom.

Ah, I misread/missed about the power, my apologies. FN-GM's idea might not actually be unfeasible, they only use a couple of watts so a very small solar & battery solution would be more than sufficient even in the winter months. But of course you'd also need another AP in the cabin to relay that wifi to clients. 20 watts would be more than enough and should be achievable, if not a small technical project for you

A couple of unifi Nanobeams will do the job perfectly for around £150 a pair, or if you prefer a full gig then the airmax Gigabeams for around £300 the pair are a well tried and tested solution.

That was my understanding from the documentation, doesn't seem to be behaving though An example, going to lloydsbank.com, certificate issued by Smoothwall-HTTPS-INterception-Certificate-Authority which is apparently not trusted and the page flags up as unsecure as a result. Certificate installed from the GetMITM page however is the default-root-certificate-authority, verified. Edit - wondering if this is iDevice/Safari specific as my android doesn't appear to have the same issues on Chrome.

Morning folks, Our smoothwall appears to be dishing out the wrong certificate on the Getmitm page (the root CA rather than the HTTPS decryption certificate). I can't for the life of me find out how to change it to the decryption cert, nor can I find documentation on that other than something saying they're interchangeable! Is this possible, or am I going to need to re-create everything?

Yes absolutely. MS, Google and many other large suppliers make doing DPIA's extremely easy so there's little reason not to do one, even retrospectively. Do remind SLT that you're doing it to protect them and the school!

Another knee-jerk reaction from our leaders that would have inevitably ended up with businesses, schools etc telling them where to go regardless of who controls the network. People making decisions without knowing facts never ends well! It would have ended up with several people here giving the LA a middle finger or 20; we have nearing 130 cameras plus supporting infrastructure! And all perfectly safe being properly secured and relevant access only. Worst case scenario would be a VLAN setup and a few separate switches to keep them off "their network" at least in the eyes of any scanning software.

Whelp, so it's resolved! The comms provider hadn't thought about a setting. I asked if they could remote on and show me the settings as we don't have access, which they duly did. They only usually change the external IP when internet line is changed, but this needed a little more. I noticed a "Nat mode" option, pointed this out and set to Static and bingo! Lots of work and hassle over a setting they'd never seen before Next step for this.... look at 3CX

Funnily enough I'm not convinced this is the case on the Cisco router to which we have no access. Many, many many reports of that being an issue on Cisco stuff, but Gamma say it's fine. Whether that means it's disabled or it should work is beyond me.
