Yeah, we're using Mosyle and will likely just have to manually add it to there, I'd just like to be able to add it to ASM too.

Cheers - unfortunately thats an article I've already stumbled across, and it negates one large issue - once you go through the setup far enough to allow pairing, Configurator requires you to erase and start again, and no longer paired

Does anyone know if it's possible to supervise AppleTV 4k WiFi (no ethernet port) via configurator please? Ethernet models are easy but going round in circles with this model and Apple support aren't interested if they're not being used at home.

Kids should be being told not to give their passwords to ANYONE. Parents, teachers, other pupils, that dodgy uncle, the Police, CIA, MI6 or Jason Bourne. Anyone saying otherwise is undermining years of work to help people secure their digital lives. I'm not aware of a "parental access" for Teams. There is usually an app like Go4Schools, Edulink, ShowMyHomework etc where the homework is set and marked complete which they would usually have access to.

Get where you're coming from exactly - the absurdity is just that you'd be doing that work for effectively more money than just getting an interactive panel by the time you've added it all up, the fact you'd be replacing TV's twice as often as panels, spending more time resolving issues, power management and lack of network management options etc. The TCO is more relevant to the school than immediate purchase cost, and even then if you're in dire straights then many companies have leasing or lease to own options which may soften the blow. Frankly financing in education is absurd, but a good business manager should be able to help get around that with a decent 3-5 year plan in place. And a crystal ball, lottery win and a change of government

With ever increasing resistance against MITM systems from just about all the major players, it appears one of the only really likely ways forward are managed browsers rather than MITM filtering - a case of you can't have your cake and eat it for privacy & security as well as safeguarding. It's certainly getting more and more difficult for companies like Smoothwall to offer protection otherwise, so interested what the general consensus is here.

Doesn't take long before you're hitting the price of an interactive panel anyway - just over a grand gets you a sturdy, for purpose interactive from the Promethean LX range or Viewsonics without having to do any special work to make them workable. They're designed to be left on for long periods which TV's otherwise are not unless you pay for signage displays, which usually cost more than interactive ones anyway. Plus you can have interactivity and do away with what is frankly an absurd idea of writing on perspex with whiteboard markers! TCO is probably less by doing it properly.

If anyone is involved in redaction or going through any of the data, make sure you are paid and titled for this appropriately - otherwise hands off. Collate & provide data is where the line should be drawn for IT otherwise not involved in GDPR. Been there, done that and it is NOT worth a TLR alone; it should absolutely be done by someone senior level if not in-house DPO.

Disable QUIC in your firewall/filter, should solve that. (May be an option to disable, you may need to add a firewall rule)

My home workhorse laptop is an aging Lenovo of the Thinkpad era - T530 or something of that ilk. That's solid, but still not as solid as the even older models; maybe a sign of the times though, nothing these days is properly sturdy any more unless it's covered in rubber and branded V-Tech

Lenovo QC these days is absolutely awful. We've just had a load of 100e chromebooks and they're OK, but the general quality of the devices & the service is just awful Think I'd rather go Acer these days, and that's saying something!

Necrothread, for awareness. every single 2power battery device we have is being written off These are from refurbished laptops with new 2power batteries, only 2 years old. There is an extreme fire risk.

Yeah, I did wonder about the FttP but any extra cost will be prohibitive, especially when it's only a short term solution. Looked at just getting a data sim and our own router but as even the basic ones seem to be a few hundred pounds, it was actually cheaper to get something in at 30 a month for 12 months. Personally I'd have been far happier having a competent provider in the first place! (and it would have more than likely been @Wave9_Lee )

Hi, I'm investigating backup internet connectivity for our site. Very limited budget and physical connectivity is either ADSL grade "broadband" at a max of 37Mbps or leased line options at £hellofalot. An ideal solution would be 5G - we have decent connectivity here for that, however looking at some options is confusing. Now on paper this solution seems perfect: https://business.ee.co.uk/mobile-broadband/smart-5g-hub/ Business grade, unlimited data, 4/5G, would be easy enough to plug into smoothwall to manually fail over if/when needed. Obviously some things will need taking care of like telephony but that's easy. My question relates to the terms and conditions these people seem to lay out - this is unlimited, but at several points in the T&C it states that even for unlimited connection after "using your full speed allowance you will be capped to 0.5Mbps" as well as "We deem anything over 600GB per month excessive and may move you to a more appropriate contract". Neither sits well with the term unlimited for me, especially for a business connection. I don't for one moment expect we'll ever exceed 600GB - our typical month is around 2TB and if our leased line drops for multiple days we should still be OK. But I would still like to check we're not going to be falling foul of anything else! Has anyone else gone down this route and considered these issues, or am I overthinking it?

As cables get thicker, the worse they get to terminate! For Cat6/6a, only use keystone patch panels and for RJ45 the pass/crimp through connectors are the easiest. Still fiddly, but that's always part and parcel. Run each cable through your finger and something smooth like a pen to straighten them before getting them in the right order.

Am I being cynical, or does this feel like an insurance job? I mean I don't know how it works in this industry, but they might as well have soaked their house in petrol, lit a match and gone "Oops, what a shame, I wonder how much we'll get"...

My last school went down the bazooka for a fly approach with Avigilon. Far better, fully compatible, but I'm 100% certain you could do the same for less. Popularly mentioned is BlueIris although not sure how well that scales up to larger deployments.
