Stream mode only stores cached files for frequent use, it doesn't store anything else nor does it (or nor should it) mirror files, hence this shouldn't have an impact.

It's my drives not shared. And yes, that was obviously the first thing that came to mind, however it's also possible that the problem like last time is getting hugely covered up. Google jumped on the November issue like mad which is why there's so little out there even from the media outlets that covered, compared when it actually hit. But still, applying some logic, Google stream = only cached files stored, what behaviour should cause this? None.

Yeah, that would have been the first thing that came to mind, until it's lots of users at up to 15k files *each*. At a rough estimate we're up to around 120k in total and the only app involved is the Google Drive app for windows, so staff can make full use of a capable Office suite without resorting to the online shenanigans. Google themselves have confirmed an issue but radio silence for any concrete cause or resolution. The only thing that seems to kick this off are small changes to user profiles - enabling offline files specifically. A scenario that is neither rare or likely to kick off such a problem especially in streaming mode. And this is just user's own My Drive, not shared files.

Still ongoing. Google support is being absolutely diabolical - chased for answers every day last week then finally got a "we'll get you an answer 24-48 hours from now" on Friday. Still nothing as of this morning. 15k files deleted over the weekend. Manual restoration is all I've done for the last week, and we're absolutely sick of it. Clearly something we've done has kicked this problem off, but the fact we're streaming rather than syncing proves without doubt there's a problem with the soft. SLT rightly fuming (and have my back thankfully) and all at wits end Literally going back to encrypted USB storage for some, just to tide us over! Absolute joke

Word will do this without any extra software, and the results are usually a little better than the free sites you have to upload your wonderful data to for conversion, but it still falls over with formatting on tables etc. Interested to see if there's anything other than Acrobat that produces good results.

Don't forget it's not always a technical thing - giving a choice can be an important positive for some, even when the choice is an illusion

I believe the choice can be important, and there's little to no difference in keeping it installed. Yeah it's another set of GPO's to manage but usually once done, it's just done. Plus it can offer a little more flexibility to staff who may need more than one account open, and even despite them being very similar they are not identical and some sites do behave differently.

That article is only for recovering files that have been deleted from trash, not files which are currently sitting in trash. And yes, it was easy when you've come from an MS tenant where doing things like this on a per tenant, per domain, per group or per user context is a couple of clicks at most without any scripting. I've not been able to find any documentation for achieving the restoration of trashed files via GAM, if there's anything you're aware of it'd be really useful!

They've confirmed an issue and are investigating. In the meantime we're sat here trying to restore tens of thousands of files at Google's wonderful limit of a couple hundred at a time which noone has time for I don't understand how anyone can say this is a complete, usable product. I know MS isn't perfect but this sort of thing is just *easy*

Hi all, Last year, there was an issue with Google deleting files at will, apparently relating to a bug with the cache in the Appdata folder. We seem to be stumbling across this issue yet again, certainly at our school and possibly others. Files suddenly being moved to the users' Trash folder, audit logs showing they deleted them (they didn't). No deletion of profiles, possibly some changes made, but Google support have confirmed there is likely to be an issue which they are looking into. Is anyone else seeing this? Once or twice you may think people are accidentally deleting things, but this is definitely not the case It may be worth checking your tenants anyway, just to be sure!

I've set EWP for 2 schools and in both instances the requirement was just the no proofing tools. Neither were aware of the added bonuses, autosaves, header sheets, candidate & exam board info etc. Both instantly committed and absolutely love the amount of hassle and time it saves. Get a demo, put it in front of your exams officer and get an order in - value for money wise, you just can't beat it.

I agree! With the possible exception of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, although being animated that's a bit easier to get the right look and feel. Fallout however is exceptional. Yes a lot is CG, but it has clearly been done by people involved with or have spent a LOT of time in game. It's good enough that you could easily recreate the entire set in Fallout 4 settlements. I'm 4 in so far and absolutely feel like I've just put in another 100 hours into FO4, but the influence from the entire series is clear to see. There's a level of unexpected humour which is pretty much on par with the games - cousins and chickens, enough said there! Character wise - spot on. Lucy is extremely likeable and relatable and you can see the naivety you would expect from a vault dweller. The ghoul is absolutely awesome and the BoS just feels "right". I'm getting slight stormtrooper/Finn vibes from Maximus and not in any negative way. Thoroughly enjoyable!

One thing that makes me wary of mattresses like Simba, Emma, Dormeo etc is the fact that reviews rarely come after a good time of use. It's easy to say they're lovely and comfortable, best night's sleep etc after the first week but what are they like after a year or two? By that time, people seem to swear at their loss, replace the mattress and don't bother reviewing them - or if they do, the reviews and social media comments get hidden by the pages. For this reason I've always tended to stick to the companies that have actually been around a long time; mine is a Dreams currently, not a massively expensive one but meant I was able to try it first which is another benefit of those. Not saying the others are in any way bad, but I'm getting old and cynical

This is one of the "more a job for invigilators" things, there's only so much we can do. Some people run these entirely via devices like CD players, MP3 players and can't technologically disable that function, if it has it. From our IT perspective, it might be a good idea to run through any classroom management software ala netsupport, impero or senso to help keep an eye if they're not constantly walking around and know what to look for.

In that position I'd be getting all the local schools together to force the LA's hand. However, a lawsuit for 5 pence and a packet of ready salted crisps would be enough to bankrupt most councils currently and leave the schools with even less Foul play from everyone involved.

Fully agree with the above. As horrible as it sounds, even to schools that do not consider themselves "exam factories", the exams are what we are all working towards ultimately. My suggestion is merely spend as much time as you can with the EO up front - understand what they need, empathise with them and let it be known you're there to help. I've known a few EO's over the years and they've all shared a huge amount of stress, and take everything they do to heart. Any problems will often end up in tears because they feel they've let a young person down. Once you can understand what is needed, you will be able to become more hands-off. Once you've gotten most things under your belt the first year, every other year will become a little easier, of course understanding that exams software is usually the worst software in the world. Especially if it's got Pearson anywhere near it! Look at things like ExamWritePad - there's no exagguration when I say I introduced this to our EO at my new school and she ended up in tears of joy at how much time, effort and hassle it saved. Get all firewall/filtering requirements sorted out urgently for online exams, software like A2C if you use that to pull in results for results days. Be available for the day before results day. Have a bank of devices specifically set up for exams and if they must be shared, make it known exams have absolute priority. Let it be known that if they want to come and sit with you to rant, cry, shout and let off some steam, they can. Trust me, this little thing can go a LONG way.

If there's anything trailing from them, there is a lazy user issue coupled with a bad equipment issue The ends would be entirely flush with the connector, risk from shorting them unless they've been left dangling for whatever reason is extremely low. And frankly, there's already exposed copper on the connectors which is as per their design, so the risk is already there. And they're so much easier to fit, as you can leave a longer length of cable which in turn makes it far easier to guide all 8 into the correct slots, slide it down to the cable sheath and bobs you're uncle

So many people have it in for them for reasons I neither understand nor care. Like you and many others, they have absolutely revolutionised terminating for me! It's still a PITA, but far less than it was before, especially with aging, slowing and ever-widening fingers!

Tearing my hair out with BYOD on Smoothwall. It's working well for iDrones and older Androids, but Android 13 devices are just having none of it. You can't "not validate" the certificate on these, and even trying to import the CA certificate directly, there's no attempt at connection. I don't even know what to put in the "domain" field on the Android, as there isn't a domain in the CA. Fairly standard RADIUS setup with Smoothwall, PEAP and MSCHAP auth. Smoothwalls documentation only says anything about the now defunct "Do not validate" option Any hints/gotchas on this ?
