Aye indeed cheers. We're keeping it simple for now just for the sake of mitigating risk - noting who has been given access and when, and changing the password regularly. Too many variables otherwise including the joy that is mac randomisation as default on modern devices. Trust lead has spoken to Smoothwall with a view to have this as a feature, but despite this being something built into just about everything available including pfsense, it's not likely to become viable unless just about their entire userbase requests it.

How do you do yours? We're Smoothwall and UniFi, and looking to find a simple as possible, additional cost-free solution for guests whilst mitigating the additional risks presented by not inspecting SSL traffic. Best way of achieving that would be just being able to identify who's using the guest network at any one time - in the past there have been setups like reception creating accounts for them when needed. In the absence of this as an option, and unifi being rather limited in that respect, is there another way of achieving this? My preference would be daily rotating passwords on preset accounts, given to users upon request via captive portal which prompts them for a name or email address. UniFi is close with facebook (not achievable) and just about every firewall solution out there can do it, including everything Smoothwall is based upon.

Can't you specify powered paxton instead? On the assumption there's already power at those games if paxton is being used, that'd surely be a better all round solution. But if not, you can absolutely use injectors with that or any switch.

Think of the energy savings I was on a 42" samsung LCD until last year and worked out the £300 i spent on the 55" Hisense would be paid for by itself in just a couple of years of energy saving. For a plasma, if it's on for more than a couple hours a day, any modern TV would pay for itself in 6 months

Looking at getting some docks in and the HP's seem a decent value. However I'm confused as hell as their own site lists the "HP USB-C Dock G5" under 3 different product codes, with different stock amounts and different prices. Descriptions all appear the same. Am I missing something? Likewise does anyone have experience of them? We're mostly HP Probooks but would like the ability to use other devices as and when the need arises.

I'm going to re-necro this thread, so if it starts looking like a zombie, my apologies! We've currently got 150 shared device licenses which costs a fortune. I'm considering whether to half that to 75, or move to named user licensing. Typically there are 3 IT suites (90 machines) plus 30 laptops, plus 5 staff, although over the past year we've only actually "used" 40 licenses. Named licensing looks tempting - it works out a few hundred pounds cheaper per year for 300 users. We'll not use that amount per year, but I don't know about how it handles changes of user - so can we remove users as they drop from those subjects and add new ones when they join? Can we also easily change from shared device to named licensing without having to reinstall?
