Started DJing at the tender age of 14 - I used to go out with a couple of old hats who showed me the ropes, used to go out with CDs and a very expensive rig and do the good old 18 & 21 parties and the odd wedding and older parties too. Did that for 4 years and moved in to sound engineering - did that for best of 10 years now just getting back into my djing again, this time though actually going in to the clubs and playing the stuff the youth of today are in to lol I also present a weekly show on hospital Radio - thats fun and is in no way related to what I play in the clubs!! Yes I play off a laptop now and unless I'm using CDJs in the clubs I have a controller to run the software but I enjoy it so couldn't really care what people think about my setup at the end of the day if the punters are still there at the end of the night then I've done my job (or the booze was on offer ) One thing I have to chip in with though is the comment earlier on in the thread about laptop DJs just pressing play and letting it go... yes granted this does happen (Don't all Djs have to press play on something??) but there is still an art to song selection, knowing which songs gel and which don't and not everyone can do that. It's a problem with a lot of the young club DJs that are coming through now, they have no idea of song selection and it does take the biscuit sometimes. Anyway that's my 2p worth

I have attached a copy of our vbs this runs for all users when they log on. It is stored in the netlogon share and is called simply by putting the following in the logon script: cscript %LOGONSERVER%\netlogon\printers.vbs We did try using GPP for printers but found it highly unreliable and in some cases added stupid amounts of time on to the logon. That script has some commenting but if it needs more explanation then please let me know Printers.txt

If you want to set it at the top you can but you need to change the code slightly Private SERVERNAME as string = nothing Private PRINTERNAME as string = nothing This will set those variables when the application is launched - you can then reference them in your functions later on For Example: Add Button SERVERNAME = me.textbox1.text PRINTERNAME = me.textbox2.text 'do something [/Code] Once you have assigned a variable to the declaration you can reuse it so doing it on the add button may not be the best place if you intend using it (and add is not the first button called) You may want to look at updating the variable on LostFocus (an event that will run when the control loses focus)

If you are doing AD (and DNS) then I would just create a new server, promote it and then do a graceful demotion of the old server - same for DHCP, bring server online and create scopes but dont authorise until ready, de-authorise DHCP on old server and authorise new, a simple reboot of clients should cause them to switch over. If you are doing file copies then i would look at something like robocopy, very customisable and can scripted too

we run ours across a couple of servers (SIMS Files etc and the SIMS DB) the SIMS File server is standard 2012 with 8Gb Dynamic RAM 2vCPU the DB server is 2012 with 24Gb RAM and 4vCPU all running on a failover cluster of 5 hyper-v hosts

We currently use Spiceworks as a Helpdesk Solution and for us it works great - but the school now uses Parago for the Asset tracking (which our IT inventory has to be put in to). Anyway, I've heard on the grapevine that they now have a helpdesk module?? Can anyone confirm this and give any feedback on it?

Not been a 'musician' for years - used to play keys and piano in a band back in my youth... Now I DJ and sound engineer quite a bit (and I am going deaf) and love doing recording sessions... NAMM tends to be a bit like walking in to the apple store... all nice, shiny and pretty but too damn expensive lol But, it must be said, I am looking forward to the new tech innovations this year

Just that really... we are looking at getting some iPad 2s (no apple bashing please) and our HT has asked if I can look into some custom branded cases to make them look a bit more corporate. So what do you do - has anyone looked in to this before got any ideas? We have a Graphic Designer in school so a design shouldn't be difficult - it's just finding someone/where that does this sort of thing Any help would be appreciated Thanks

You're lucky we hadn't been back 24 hours after the Christmas holiday and we had the call - went as well as expected though

We have one physical server with ~12Tb of storage for Veeam to backup to. We run nightly reversed incrementals each server has a minimum of 14 rollbacks and in the case of staff and pupil servers they are ~ the 60 rollback mark the rollback sizes (basically the changes) in most cases don't tend to be massive around 10Gb on average

Our pupil server backup is currently just over the 1Tb mark nightly Our Staff User Data server is ~350Gb nightly Our Staff Common Data server (department shared resources) ~800Gb nightly We use Veeam which can easily handle this and all the other servers we have in a night

We don't hard quota staff but FSRM tracks what they have in their individual user areas (I think the soft limit may be 3Gb) - of course we have some staff that don't use anything and some that use way more so does tend to balance (we have ~200 Staff) Pupils are different, we have 1500, each student up to Year 10 has 3Gb Hard (which automagically moves to 3.5 if they hit that limit) Year 11 & Sixth Form have 4Gb with no increase. If a student does need more space they have to justify it. We don't do any filtering as found it a pita especially with the likes of media/ video and audio work.

When I went back in 2003 the family I stayed with were on the sunshine coast which was about an hour and half north of Brisbane so managed to get to go there a couple of times - It was a nice city then, so I expect that it has only got better... Do you know what rental/ house prices are like? Or could you point me somewhere that may have this info? Also did you use any agency to help with visas and applications etc, I know there are plenty that will help for a fee but I don't really want to spend money if it's not worth it.

My friend lives with his partner in Brisbane so may look around there, at least then there'll be one person I know and if needs be I'm sure he'd put me up for a bit until I got settled. $10 for a pint!! Seems a bit expensive, but then I suppose you pay that sort of equivalent if you go to some of the more up market establishments in the big cities

Ok, so this is something that I have been thinking about for a while and would like the opinion of my fellow edugeekers as to what I should do? Bit of background, 10 years ago I had the opportunity to go to Australia to visit friends (long time friends who emigrated a long time ago). I was there for 6 months and loved every minute. Now, understand at the time I was only 18 and (through various donations from family etc) had enough money to live out there without having to work - basically it was a 6 month holiday! Even though it was a holiday I did manage to get quite an insight into working life, after all the people I was visiting/ living with had jobs had to pay bills sort out taxes and all that. I also got an insight into school life too, the family I was with had kids that were in I think our equivalent of primary school (although was upper years age 8 or 9). So to the point of this trip into my past, I've been thinking of going back to live and work, like I say I've been thinking about it for a while. I've looked into the Skilled Occupation List and it appears that I should be ok on that front. From a personal point of view, I have no children, I'm single and still under 30 (which I think helps too) I don't have a mortgage or anything else really that is going to tie me down financially, yes OK I have family but I would like to think they would understand plus they can always come visit or if I'm desperate there is Skype For me it's just the possibility of a fresh start. I know some of you here have made the move and although your experiences may not be exactly the same, I would like to know how you have found it? What is the job market like at the minute? Cost of living and all that. I also understand that everyone has been affected by the global financial crap too which may be a downside of looking to move now. So what are your thoughts, should I? shouldnt I? I know there are no easy answers and typically no right ones, I'm looking for opinions and hopefully some advice from people with first hand experience. Thanks in advance for the help and advice
