  1. ahh poots.... if you tracert the internal addresses do they route through your FW? We don't have a smoothwall here (and use proxy settings) so may be barking up wrong tree but internal resolution may be an issue... IIRC autodiscover should be done without any authentication on your FW (if smoothwall is asking for username and password it will not work) - in all honesty it has been a while since I set up our exchange box and it took me some time to get autodiscover working correctly
  2. if this is internal, do you have these addresses (or the whole FLZ) bypassed in your proxy? As in Proxy (IE) Settings etc?
  3. Check out CAU - should work fine and automates most of the process https://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/hh831694.aspx
  4. we just use message delivery restrictions in exchange (2010) - create a (hidden) distribution group add in the people/other groups that can email the 'All staff Group' and go from there... dead easy
  5. We ended up writing our own SQL/access based one that does everything we need including lifecycling and purchase tracking
  6. we only use the helpdesk part, found that the asset management bit was clunky and slow at best... we have approximately 2000 items that would go on it some scanned some manually entered... The helpdesk is brilliant though...
  7. We saw this ages ago where a user had connections to printers and other network shares that no longer existed (or there were network problems etc)
  8. Why? is there a specific reason? Microsoft do support DCs as VMs
  9. Why not create a new virtual fresh, promote it, make sure all your sevices are running correctly and demote and decommission your physical - bit more effort but you will have a nice clean virtual
  10. And here was me thinking that was some obscure AC-DC reference!
  11. I wrote an access based inventory for us... easier and cheaper than the paid for stuff and does purchase tracking, life cycling and equipment disposals (doesn't do software tracking however) we use spiceworks for helpdesk and thats it... the two are not linked but we have no need for this
  12. How does that work in a complicated security structure? I presume it will error if a person cannot read and/or write to a particular folder?
  13. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but is there any news on whether this will be fixed in the future?
  14. Veeam B&R has its own management console... we just RDP into the server and manage the jobs etc from there...
  15. College Work!? I have to do actual work, and deal with the constant interruption of kids coming in going 'Yo, is the internetz down fam'
  16. Here is a copy of the one I wrote for here... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92265917/Printers.vbs This may help get you started - there's no OU checks as we dont use it but it will do room/ computernames and AD group memebership HTH Dont run it on your server!! and make sure you edit the bits in [sQUARE BRACKETS]
  17. VBS for us too... script does all sorts and writes to event log so easy to spot errors when they occur
  18. I'm just in the process of doing this... all our data get's archived at EOY (as should be standard) at the end of the year all our leavers (year 11 and 13/14) get disabled and moved to a To Be Deleted OU - if any students return (tends to be a lot for year 11 in to 12, not so much 13 to 14) we just re-enable the account and move it back to it's original OU Then at the Oct HT we run a script that looks in the TBD OU, pulls the AD information and then proceeds to delete Roaming profile/ appdata folders, delete User Home Directories, and finally delete the AD account Staff deletions take a similar approach! we are looking in to Salamander AD tool to automate all this though
  19. It's about time IMHO!! Too many people getting away with dodgy driving and fake insurance claims

  23. if this is a 2012R2 machine what version are your DCs at? there are a few posts out there that suggest attempting to join a 2012r2 machine to DCs at 2003 may cause an issue
  24. date/time firewall drivers/firmware Can you ping your DCs?
