6Foot2 Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 (edited) We have no snow at the moment [the forecast says to expect it at around 8:00: Just when I am dropping my son and his friend at their school which will probably close early today] Edit: Just watched the latest forecast. It now looks like it will arrive here 10:00 - 11:00. Edited January 18, 2013 by 6Foot2 Add detail to the post.
SYNACK Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 We never have snow, I'm jealous. 32 degrees is just uncomfortable, -5 to 10 degrees would be much more comfortable.
laserblazer Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Snow here (Worcestershire), just a light covering at present but it is getting heavier. Looking at the weather station, the wind is coming from the east, which makes me wonder which way the weather is travelling?
witch Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Just been out to walk the dog - he got very excited and was jumping around eating the snow like a puppy - he's 14! No sign of any gritters and we live on a bus route near a large hill. Went to the county website to look for the closure list and it is down. Already. At 06.10am! Oh come ON people! No notification of closure on school websites yet - hope it appears soon as I normally get in at 07.30am
elsiegee40 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 It hasn't made it to West Kent. To be honest, I'm not expecting much here either (Famous last words?)
witch Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 It seems my servers at both schools are down and have been for the same amount of time - must have been a power cut.
Smee Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Easiest drive in to work for ages! Snowed last night but the roads are clear in my bit of Leicestershire. I finish at 12 today so hopefully will get home before any major snow hits.
laserblazer Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Just pressed the School Closed button Doesn't help me though, I'm already here. May as well stay here and use their heat.

localzuk Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Not a huge amount in Minehead, but we're closed - as a lot of staff come from Taunton way where conditions are worse and its getting worse here too.
BassTech Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Had about 2cm here in Brum, and it's still coming down, forecast is light/heavy snow all day with stong winds... School is OPEN though!
CAM Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Business as usual here in South London, it is extremely cold though! I can feel the cold through the window even in my office! A good map for those who want to watch the chaos unfold though. With Twitter #uksnow commentary (plenty of grumpy and disappointed people in the East this morning!). bondbill2k2 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Just pressed the School Closed button Doesn't help me though, I'm already here. May as well stay here and use their heat. If most people are out then Step 1 use PA system for own music or hall/theatre into a cinema Step 2 Raid school canteen Anyone questions why say you anticipated the worst and needed company and food rations

localzuk Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Our firewall complained about the volume of traffic we're getting, lol. Just adjusted the throttling rates so it doesn't think we're under attack.
HaleStorm Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 We have about 2cm of snow here, but as we are hardy yorkshire folk we carry on regardless, and as the caretaker quoted "this in't snow, y'ant s'in snow you young 'uns, when I were a bairne it'd be 4foot deep and we still went t'school" 2

When I was at school, we had to tunnel our way through the pack ice. In bare feet. If we were really cold when we got in, teacher would chuck us on fire to warm up.

If we were cold we were allowed to put our hands in our pockets, if we were lucky enough to have them! Edited January 18, 2013 by alan-d
localzuk Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 One of our teachers has rang in rather shocked that they've got half a foot of snow where they are at Wheddon Cross. We've got about 0.05cm so far.
