Yeah, lets just ignore sexism. I'll ignore racism and homophobia too...

I'm not saying ignore anything. I'm saying how can you make such a big deal out something which the 'victim' hasn't even been offended by.

to be fair, if i called one black guy a n***er, he may not be that bothered by it as some aren't, but it doesn't lessen the fact i've said it and it does encompass more than just him

Because the 'victim' isn't the only victim. The victim is actually an entire gender being pasted with a brush saying they all can't do something simply because of their gender. The 'victim' is not really relevant to the argument.

I understand what you are saying. All I'm saying is it's not as big a deal as you are making out in this instance. There's even some women (the ones that are allowed to speak) have said that it's not a big deal. I'm glad you're not on the comittee of our Working Mans Club - you'll be allowing women in the bar next....

Because it's not just about ONE victim.....

What sort of message does it send to other female referees and assistants? That as soon as you get high enough in the game to get a televised fixture, you're going to be judged NOT on what you do, but on how you look? Your abilities are going to be called into question JUST BECAUSE of your gender?

Do they often say anything about a new MALE refs assistant? NO...because it's expected that they know the offside rule.

As I've said before, if a Referee's Assistant is good enough to be given a top-flight game, then there should be no question of their abilities, regardless of their gender.

I think most pub talk is about how the officials DO NOT know how to ref a game! We've no idea what they've said about the male refs... it hasn't been caught on cam yet, no doubt as per most football fans and footballers they're going to give them a bit of a roasting. If you've ever been to a match the referee is frequently questioned about ability... the referee's a ...

Not saying it's OK what he said, can totally understand why the fuss has been made but if was saying that about a ginger ref and he said gingers don't know the offside rule, you'd all have a giggle...

Every time we get Phil Dowd, I question his abilities! ;)

Look, I haven't said it's not sexist. Their comments were sexist. Mistakes are made though, so lets not hang them for a petty crime. I would never ever have a go at the liner (finally, a word that doesn't discriminate) because of her gender - I think she is VERY able, as this picture shows:

Anyhow, I'm going to have a kit kat, and try and renew my insurance - now where's the number for Sheila's Wheels......

I'd say that, more often than not, the referees parentage is being questioned........

My point is that Keys and Gray would never think to sit there and question the ability of a male RA, who was having his first televised game, and yet, because the RA is a woman, they feel that they CAN? That is what is wrong.

all i'm saying is, it'll be dangerous singing "who ate all the pies" now

I think you can......You just cannot end it with....

"You fat bas***d, you fat bas***d, you ate all the pies!"

We'll never know whether they do or don't, have or haven't if hasn't been caught on cam... or fed back somehow.

Clattenburg, now there is a spanner of a referee... and that's coming from a United fan!

Well Keys is gone.... YouTube - Would you smash it?

It suddenly occured to me lastnight why this is all coming out now, when we all know that "lockerroom" talk has been going on in every profession with groups of same sex forever, Miriam O'Reilly won her age/sex* discrimination case against Countryfile didn't she...

* I mention sex as ultimately this is what its about. "The mob" (both male and female, but ime more female) like to see attractive women (and on girls shows, men) on TV

Oh would we?........OH WOULD WE?

If I were you I would run away...:fear:

Take a bow son, take a bow.

That's worth the fee alone, I am lying, bring back that chunky guy from channel 5 who does hole in the wall - he's crud too but he makes me feel better about myself.

How could they possibly justify paying that imbecile Gray £1.7m a year to waffle on about football. Obscene.

And people might think the same about you, "how could they possibly justify paying tech_guy £x a year to sit on EduGeek. Obscene." ;)

the June 2010 issue of the referee magazine carried an article about female referees with a few profiles :

http://www.thefa.com/~/media/5D29273BB9D3482CB2DCAC5E41175E0F.ashx/REFMAG12_June2010.pdf

Each issue carries 4 questions re the Laws of the game to ponder. In this issue they are on page 20. See how you get on (answers are further down the issue)

Currently, 1 in 3 games arranged by the FA is played without a trained ref. For anyone interested in having a go :
