Well watching clip It all comes down to if I had said that to a member of staff at work I would of been sacked he was at work and was expected to behave in professional way he did not and quite rightly was fired.

For those that think it is political correctness to move away from words that have been repeatedly used to brow-beat (no offence to neanderthals), poke (no offence to those without fingers), to jibe at (no offence to those who sail the ocean's waves) or to simply be derogatory, then I honestly don't think you have understood that there was something wrong in the first place.

 

It is perfectly correct for us all to take a look at what language we use and think about whether it is appropriate anymore. In the US and in a number of other countries the term handicap is still a perfectly ok term as they have had a look at the origin of the word (originally from betting and then to horse racing where it was to give those putting money into a cap a fair chance of winning the most able / strongest horse would have weight added to make it more difficult for them, this then moved to other sports inc golf) and have decided that it is perfectly ok as it is interchangeable with the word disability. However, in the UK and some other countries (and there is a growing movement in the US) we have moved away from the term, not because of the hand-in-cap reference you sometimes hear related to begging (which it has also been used for but was not the correct origin), but simply because it is used in a derogatory manner.

 

It is used as an insult and these two poor excuses for commentators have been using the word 'woman' in a derogatory manner.

 

It is not a political correctness thing to stop using term that are misused, abused or as used as insults. It is simply people growing up and playing fair.

 

Although I do agree that some do try to use PC for silly reasons, and try to force derogatory ideas into areas where they are not deserved ... Baa, Baa, black Sheep is a perfect example, even if the original query about whether it was offensive or not was then twisted by the media into PC madness. However, some of the stuff in Tin Tin is wrong ... but should be kept so we can point out how wrong it was/is.

thank christ hes gone! he was the absolute worst thing about sky sports, he completely ruined commentry on matches by uttering total garbage and by being sooooo biased towards certain teams.

and also the new boots advert showing two women in the street with colds talking with the voiceover "when you dont have time to be ill because he is".

It is in the same region, yes, and I don't agree with it either. I dislike the stereotyping of anyone due to the actions of individuals. However, it is also part of humanity to pigeon-hole people. Everything has to be categorised, else some people get upset, so companies will use whatever is generally seen as acceptable in efforts to push their wares. Just look at the old Yorkie chocolate bar adverts.

 

However, at the same time, parody and humour should be able to push the boundaries a little, as it often works as a reflection of the stupidity of how some of us behave and think.

i completely agree, i just dont think the boots advert is parodying or humouring, more ridiculing. same as if the advert were two guys talking and saying "yeah she couldnt go out....she had period pains so had to stay in bed so i have to do it".

I heard that Murdoch doesn't actually own Sky Sports. That there's a take-over in process but this has been delayed. Could be wrong though.

I was thinking about this thread last night when I heard, and had a similar conversation with a mate as AyatollahPies has come up with. At some point he has upset someone who has waited until now before being able to do something with the recorded footage.

 

We all know that you need to have a personal and professional relationship with people, and for those people you dont like, you act professionally. I wouldn't say looking at that video clip there was much professionalism involved. It's then down to the employer to discipline their staff following their procedures. Of course when you work in the media your situation is shown for all to see and that can result in extra pressure on the employer to do something about it.

 

You have to admit though, working with all the camera's and mic's you would expect someone to be careful in their behaviour/words as it is so much easier to produce evidence of inapropriate behaviour.
