Recovering SIMS SQL database in Dell Rapid Recovery
andyturpie replied to andyturpie's topic in MIS Systems
*Finally resolved - thanks! -
Morning all, We have had a pupil record accidentally deleted and was wondering what was the best practice of recovery? We have just had our back up systems over the summer move from BUE to Dell Rapid Recovery. Recovering normal files we find easy, but this is the first time ever we have been fronted with a task of recovering our SQL database. Has anyone had to do this before? Thankfully we will have to lose only two hours of work at maximum now rather than a whole day! Any advice welcome! Andy T

Non work related - ASUS cable router question
andyturpie replied to andyturpie's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Fantastic people - Just had a poke around in the demo IU and it looks like it has the bells and whistles that I require - thanks again for your assistance, much appreciated as always! -
Morning all, Quick home related question. Does anyone have an Asus router at home? I understand that these devices come up quite often in recommendations for having great built in family filtering, but was wondering before going out and shelling £130 on one, if there is an option to use mac address filtering via time scheduling? I am more interested in curbing the use of gaming consoles in the house rather than just URL filtering etc. Ever since virgin swapped my V2 hub for a V3, there seems to be a lot less functionality under the bonnet and I cannot access my WD Mycloud drives so I am going to just put the hub into modem only mode and hook up a decent router instead. Any advice welcome

Morning folks, My partner is an avid photographer of all things musical, wildlife and nature. She is using Instagram (musicalnature) at the moment, however I would like to look at getting her a domain, hosting and create a gallery style website. As my artistic skills and design skills are pretty poor I would require more of a drag and drop web builder to set this up. I signed up to one and one last night and ended up cancelling this morning due to being told a specific domain name was available to find out later it was owned by someone else. Can anyone recommend an all in one package with a decent website builder which contains some modern flashy templates to work with? Indication of total cost of ownership would be great too. Also I suggested that she watermarks her pictures before uploading them. I was also wondering if anyone uses one they could recommend especially if it has a batch processing feature? Thanks, The words most inartistic person ever to walk the earth.

Office 365 and Google G Suite using same domain name
andyturpie replied to dfergusson's topic in Cloud Services
I don't think you can, this is the stumbling block I hit as it asks if you own the domain and you need to paste some code into the webspace of the domain to work. A new domain may be the way forward. Unless someone else knows different - I gave up at this point and haven't bothered to revisit it yet. -
Afternoon peeps, Sorry for the tardy response, this is due to multiple things going on at once; I have tried howartp's advice above of using the IP address instead of the DNS name and that seemed to settle the sessions as far as I can tell. Happy days for the end users!

Final Checklist before Switching off!
andyturpie replied to Joanne's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I have never been it this situation, but I am thinking you just switch off each of the unnecessary services and demote and as long as you don't rename the server or move your shares around the place then file server role will continue... Good Luck! -

This may help Joanne https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/50925.active-directory-checklist-for-decommissioning-a-domain-controller.aspx -
Afternoon all, When we started off with follow me printing, our repographics manager can walk up to a device and select a department to bill for a copy job. This was configured by the company who we were with at the time. We have now changed company and devices and this works, however we have another member of staff who will be assisting. But I have been through with what I thought was a fine tooth comb and cannot find the setting anywhere! I know about the pop up client etc. But this is a setting for the specific device itself. Can someone point me in the right direction? I've looked at both user accounts and they seem identical!

Thanks for the swift response; do you know what flavour and version you are running?

*Sorry admin if I haven't posted in the correct section, please feel free to move somewhere else. I am looking for other users who use Net2 access control on their networks. We have installed ours on our print server (VM) plus we have a few others who use the client install on their PCs as we have our repographics lady who creates and prints the entry cards, site manager who would perform a lock down in an emergency etc. The problem is that the clients either keep getting kicked out the sessions or they cannot log in at all. I believe the software just isn't multi session, so I was wondering how you all manage your system, where or what you have the backend installed on and how you over came hurdles to make the operation a bit smoother than ours is at the moment lol. TIA Andy T

What about the my settings folder on the server. rename it .old and allow a new one to be created at next log in? Before hand I would get her to log into a machine in which hasn't got her profile cached to pull the clean profile down.
-
You could try cleaning the problem users profile, create a fresh my settings folder, could actually be an app setting which is causing the issues.

have you set up virtual queues with redirection or just straight to the physical queue?

I've lost £800 through national distance learning centre on a basic hardware course circa year 2000, then I lost a further £6000 when Advent IT went belly up in 2010. I will never give another penny of my own cash to anyone, even if it means that I need to leave the industry, then so be it. I have zero trust in any company delivering training now.

Possibly as a business, however all the Tandy premises I knew of ended up as a Maplins?

I remember the days when it was Tandys. I bought two hifi turntables and a two channel realistic mixer as a teen and I thought I was Grandmaster Flash lol. Hope they can survive this though.

Home related issue can I get some help?
andyturpie replied to andyturpie's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
The V3 router seems like it only has about 20% of the functionality/configurability of the V2. The portal page doesn't even obscure the login password as it is typed! It is a proper shoddy bit of kit and a backwards step IMO. I think i might have to go for a 3rd party in the end. -
Home related issue can I get some help?
andyturpie replied to andyturpie's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
It does use uPNP and I have checked and the V3 hub has it enabled. -
Last week I had Virgin out to swap out an old failing V2 homehub and replaced with a V3. I thought all was okay, but then I realise I couldn't connect remotely to my WD Mycloud NAS boxes. I have looked online and everything seems a bit whataboutery when it came to the correct port forwarding configuration. The V2 hub just worked from the off with no issues. My question is this; have any of you out there successfully managed to configure a VM V3 hub and a mycloud device and if so, what settings did you use? Thanks in advance people!

CC4 - Unable to set background image
andyturpie replied to snagrat's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Ours are .bmp and we have a different coloured background for each user type so we can easily identify from a distance if someone is using an account they shouldn't. Any updates are pushed out by creating a package with the filenames being identical. -
CC4 - Unable to set background image

I remember cracking this in the early days, I did have to go into AD itself and modify a policy itself, but that was nearly 5 years ago and haven't touched it since! -
GDPR - DPO and External IT Provider
andyturpie replied to IT4Edu's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Remember guys and gals - GDPR wasn't brought in with schools in mind (they b*oody should have given us half a thought lol). All this is untested law we will be facing. I reckon this time next year we will still have a lot of what ifs and whataboutery flying around
