Yep it is the OSX server OS - my tech is doing the research at the moment as to restricting drive mappings to certain groups of stations - I am hoping it can be done!

As I am looking for a procedure to allow the new replacement macs in music access a mapped drive to the mac mini and not allow the other macs access that should keep the overheads down. Was thinking of a couple of large SSDs on a RAID 1? But then backed up to a NAS?

Afternoon, We have a 16gb Mac Mini which at the moment runs OD/AD gateway to around 25 elderly iMacs which we map students/staff home areas and a dumping ground for music teachers files. We are looking to replace our music suite with new macs and wish to relocate our old macs to other areas for utilisation, but where we cannot get a definitive answer is will ramping up the possible number of devices trying to authenticate up to say 60 clients, will this mac mini (which cannot take any more RAM) cut the mustard? The only main service that the server would perform is to save garage band/logic files in a shared area. Brings me to the second question, is there a way to segment the machines so only the macs in the music room can see this mapped drive and the re-sited macs not? TIA, regards, Andy T

Morning all, I have got this troublesome laptop top built, it even failed with a CC4 build disk at first (CD ISO) - I removed the driver and reimported the driver (same version) back in and it could then build possibly a corrupted driver. However, as I have witnessed the 53 error on only a handful of laptops I am starting to believe that it may be the database playing up, so will wait until the next laptop gives me grief then try some of the suggestions above

Morning, We brought in a fleet of Tosh C50-A laptops a couple of years ago and we have noticed all of a sudden that a few of them have ceased to PXE boot with the old E53 message. I know that all are identical specs and all were actually built onto our network by PXE boot. I took one laptop stripped all the hardware out (that was removable) and tested, still the same. I built this machine from an OS disk and installed the LAN driver - worked fine. Just wondering if there is anything DNS or IP address related which can cause this error? Any ideas? TIA Andy T

Good morning all, We get our 3rd line server support, SIMS and Connectivity through what was our LEA support. Apparently it seems that they have increased their costs by 20% since last year, which has triggered our SLT into asking me to look at alternatives. We are a RM CC4.5 school with CC4 Anywhere, SIMS/SIMS Learning Gateway with 100 Mbps connection. My first question is do other large companies who have LEA contracts for support, support schools outside their LEA boundaries? if not - are there any recommendations as to which companies preferably around the London/Home Counties would be able to provide support and connectivity all in one? Need to get about 3/4 quotes, plus RM and Capita to support their own systems. Please PM me with any leads Thank you.

Anything security or DPA related, you should get/put in writing (or email) making your personal feelings known about how seriously you take security and anything less than the security settings you suggest will pose a risk. State that you will be happily overruled, but that you will not take personal responsible for any DPA or security breaches that resulted in any requested modifications to your standard group/user security settings. Copy in the head and governors too. File a copy away for yourself too.

[smug Reply] I'm doing the same - CAT6 to a wall mounted 6u comms cab under the stairs - will be buying a 24 port gig switch with PoE if enough funds once build is complete. Audiowise, not running it around the house - doing a run of speaker cable from where my hi-fi separates will be based in living room up and across ceiling to opposite walls with phono plates. My old bedroom will be my main media room where my main DJ set up and record collection will be based and any audio will be routed through my mixer to my studio monitors

All the attic and 1st floor cables are in situ chased and plastered over lol, but did look at it and found it very expensive if you throw in running HDMI around as well.

Hi howartp -I want to distribute F-Type around the house from the central point to sockets around the rooms which will have the providers boxes in them. I possibly won't mix and match services - as I am a current virgin customer, but if I want to move services say to freesat I have all the connections for all the services at the central point, which means that I just need to swap over the inputs to the distribution box (in theory)

Hi Guys, I am halfway through house renovation and I am at the point where I am looking to pull all AV cabling through to a a central distribution point in the house (under the stairs) What I have at the moment is: A satellite dish that was installed by Sky, which will now become free sat (dormant at the moment) Virgin Tivo box in the living room and a V+box in my son's bedroom A BT telephone point (disconnected) Virgin telephone point (still live, but no land line connected to it) I am running TV points to most, but I will need some sort of amplified distribution unit to take care of it all. Now I know that the internal cables for Sky/Freesat/Virgin look like F-Type connectors and what I want to be able to do is if I decide to swap supplier for TV etc, then I just want to do some basic hot swapping of cables at this single point. Can anyone recommend me a suitable distribution box (I presume amplified which will distribute Virgin/Sky/FreeSat around the house. For the telephone sockets I am just patching in to my CAT6 network. Any advice and tips most welcome!

Morning, We have a CC4.5 estate and we use PXE to re-image machines, what I would like to do would be able to take a CD boot disk of diagnostic tools and be able to add an option in PXE boot to point to the server to load the diag tools rather than faff around with disks. Having looking through WDS where our current .wims are for boot and install, it only gives me an option to add a .wim. How would I go about adding the files, would I have to convert the CD boot disk to a wim file or are there other methods? Thanks!

Unsure about this product, but I know they released RM Portico for vanilla networks.....

From what I hear, it isn't far from release - When you log in for the first time apparently it will ask for your authentication details and then stores them in the user profile. That's as far as I know. But, it is a step nearer to blocking USB sticks - - - Updated - - - and might only be for CC4.5 users too.
