AVI to MPEG convertor

Does anyone have a 'good' preferably free program to convert AVI files to MPEG, i've tried a couple but they always end up with the sound out of sync and other niggles.

It was posted elsewhere in the forum for other file types. I wasn't suggesting anything by it, merely expressing how good SUPER is

Out of all of them I found "Media Converter" best - I'd post the file as it's free but it's a leeeetle bit to big

If you mean Super, I think you can get it from FileHippo (if you can get to that site). I can't, so unable to check.

You may also want to check out winff which has a simpler GUI than SUPER and is available for Windows AND Linux, for all you techies who prefer your apps free AND cross platform

You can't download Super through a proxy server, as they have "done" something to it, I'm not sure if it is intentional. I say proxy, it may work through transparent proxies, but we don't have one at school.

I convert avi to mpeg using ffmpeg in Linux. It's command line but it's easy... grab yourself an ubuntu disk, forget this windows stuff

I think replacing my OS at work might be a bit overkill just to convert an AVI file and i'm not going to take them home with me. Super seems to be doing the trick.

I suppose I download a 700Mb ISO file then burn a liveCD, reboot my station and not get any other work done, or I could just use Super

seems easier than truing to convert it

We are using VLC but some of the AVI files are massive and take loads of space on the servers, I can convert them with a small loss in quality to about half/two thirds the size.

If you double click on the video file once you have imported it the program will tell you the current frame rate/ect, just match that up with your MPEG2.

Any Video Converter has always worked great for me and it handles a ton of file types.
