For us, we setup a shared mailbox. In Outlook, the person responsible can see the calendars and add items etc. From the Portal > open the shared mailbox > go to the settings > publish calendar & set the options. Make a note of the publishing url. After that, tell all users to add the calendar from the calendar tile (nowhere else). Add Calendar > From internet > paste in URLs. As xyz adds new calendar items they get automatically synced after ~4 hours to everyone else. If they've joined the O365 account to a mobile device or Outlook, it'll automatically grab the shared calendars just added as well. (If anyone wants better instructions, let me know...)

Has anyone had trouble uploading SWF files to OD4B? It says ask for permission, but there isn't an obvious permission to assign to a user when they already have full control over their site collection corner. The MS documentation implies and thus offers no help that there are no restrictions on what can be placed into an OD4B account... but I get the errors thrown when trying via the web interface or the OneDrive Sync Client (New and Old)

That seems like the issue we're having too... I did find that if it does fail you can't install it manually without the same fault, if you try and older install, it says a newer version is installed, but doesn't appear in ARP or like being uninstalled, the only way around was to run the Microsoft FixIt Install/Uninstall troubleshooter.

Can you expand on this? Does it fail to start services? Which is what I get about 90% of the time... 10% of the time it's fine. ( 5.3.25 and 5.3.32 do the same nonsense )

If the ownership bit is blank, not really sure... If you use impero, it should appear in the applications used logs under */c DEL* -
Do you have macros disabled? We found that threw off importing from CSV into Access and some other weird things.

We had to change a registry value to get it working when we were using it... this was 7 years ago though... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\DCI Change "Timeout" to 7. Had something to do with remote control software and DirectX, but I don't remember the specifics of it.

[Office 365] What happens when users leave?
DrPerceptron replied to DrPerceptron's topic in Cloud Services
What's your process for that? Just disable the user and leave them where they are in AD and don't remove their licenses? -
We haven't changed anything for Outlook 2016, just pushed it out and so far nobody has complained (or they forgot where we are and how to use a phone, so can't complain they can't get into their emails)

Just curious about what you guys are doing when students particularly leave the school and move to another school (or education entirely). I know I can assign a (presumably) unlimited amount of Alumni licenses that would give them access to email, but what about their OneDrive for Business storage? Do you just let it get deleted? Do you back it up? Is there a way of bulk archiving it if so?

Is it possible to sync the payment info for 2 different ParentPay accounts to the same IMPACT database? We have a short period where two schools will share the same canteen facilities, but are curious if we can get two different ParentPay accounts to sync the data (one for the current school, one for the new one). It's not too tricky to do it manually for the new school as they're only inducting about 60 kids (Yr9 & 12).

YouTube (Non-Grid Proxies)
DrPerceptron replied to DrPerceptron's topic in South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL)
On the off-chance anyone stumbles across the same issue once they take control of their firewall... Don't use the Grid DNS boxes anywhere (even as backup options) NB: I can't edit the original post. -
Evening All, Is anyone else having periodic trouble accessing YouTube when not using any Grid Proxies (ie: straight out to net). It's not an issue that we can pin to our network - as it continues to be broken when we plug a device straight into the BT/SWGfL router, bypassing the firewall. Youtube responds to pings, but all the pages 404, HTTP or HTTPS, UK and international versions - the mobile version (app) of YouTube seems to work on wireless devices as well... just to ramp up the crazy. Got a call open with SWGfL but the problem is usually gone by the time they get RM to look into it for us, so just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing?

Only a year older than the majority of our staff laptops then :/

hmm, I guess I'll have to plug on then, I guess I was expecting more just because I'm impatient.

The tapes are in a library, lost most of my sanity working in a school, but not that much In 1hr I am copying (SCSI D2T) ~60GB to an LTO2 tape (Hardware, otherwise Software compression)
-
I quite like "Advanced Installer" - used it to create silent installs for Eclipse and various other bits of software that we used to push around.

probably should've have clarified that the 34hrs is for 2TB (at last check, probably more now), can't recall the time for 200GB. I don't have enough physical space to D2D2T, so it's remote disk to tape.
-
Anyone know, on a working properly setup, how long it takes to write 200GB of data to an LTO2 tape? (it's in an LTO3 drive if that makes any impact, but I think the tape is the limiter in that scenario) I'm trying to work out whether or not they're writing at the speed they should be as my backups are taking 34 hours to complete... but I am backing up a LOT of data as well.

Are you guys having trouble exclusively with Google? Does anyone else not go through any grid proxies and have trouble with stuff?
-
4 vCPUs + 8GB RAM all storage is RAID 15.5k disks. Works perfectly happy for ~400 staff (500+gb of mailboxes) and as a CAS for students.

Populate all users exchange calendars with events
DrPerceptron replied to Kyle's topic in Enterprise Software
As far as I know, there isn't anyway to do this without user intervention (or maybe 3rd party software?) We have two calendars which are published as "Internet Calendars" and new users get an email explaining how to subscribe to the calendars so that they get updates. It doesn't put it in their personal calendars, but they can at least see it and overlay it with a personal calendar.
