Here is West Kent it got going properly about 11am and is still very strong now.

 

We have a broken fence post one side and a flapping panel the other (that one’s the next door neighbour’s problem)

 

The scaffolding outside is squeaking ominously. We have decided to leave our cars on the road for the time being.

 

The electricians finishing our solar panel installation managed to do the ladder work before it got really bad. They’re supposed to go down to Eastbourne to do someone else’s panels this afternoon, but it’s been cancelled as too hazardous.

School was closed, but of course they wanted someone from IT in "just in case". Just watched the football goals and outdoor furniture migrate it's way across the site and we had a power blip earlier, but otherwise we seem to be holding up okay.

Onsite and it is still quite windy in Somerset. So far one largish tree down, bits of multiple trees everywhere and power flickering a few times. Still very windy out so may be more damage to come

Remember the winds in 1987, I remember getting to work and been turned around to go back home. The roof had come off our 2nd floor and crashed through the 6 foot glass pane roof of the extended floor below. The day before managing director was running the length of the building whilst the window panes were flexing in the winds.

Popped over to another local school to help their caretaker shore up the perimeter fencing.

 

oh, and we appear to have gained a mini greenhouse!

We travelled up from Somerset today. We didn't have too much of an issue. I drove slower than I would in "normal" weather and left a bigger gap to the car in front. Some other drivers seemed to think that they were in a race! The only "incident" I can think of is when my car was hit by a sizable branch torn from a tree (no damage)

 

The weather was more lively when we arrived home. Driving onto our housing estate, we saw that a large tree had been knocked over, hitting the garden fences of three houses and two conservatories in the process. Our house is OK and I was glad to find that outdoor furniture was still in place. With no sign of the storms before we left, I hadn't thought to move it to a safer position. This was the first thing I did after we arrived.

Fence panels (all "ours"): 2 blown out but luckily the people the other side have Leylandii that I managed to get the mainly intact but no good wood tucked behind. Should be OK there until we can get them replace. Third "saved by a small eucalyptus in the neighbours but was flapping badly and I could see it doing way more damage if it blew loose. No rope, but had a leftover reel of coax that I used to tie it to the posts as best I could. Fingers crossed there.

 

The shed now only has 1/2 a roof, and the greenhouse too. Well, of glass - it has the missing shed roof half. Can't see insurance paying out for the shed as it was fairly rotten (and I'd already had to replace the roof felt. Mme LeMarchand should have taken my offer of spending a tax rebate on a new one a few months ago, but I think she had grand dreams of some sort of structure that would also be usable by The Holy Grandchildren.

 

Talking of whom: Their place has a window that The Unholy Baby Daddy has never fixed and has now been taped as shut as possible. They're waiting for the wind to ease before coming here.

 

Hoping my Dad's house in Devon is OK, as the insurance status is... difficult.

The massive eucalyptus 2 gardens down (not on our road) has shed a proportionately large branch.

 

The bloke owning the garden it landed in may finally get his wish that this tree is cut down.

Few power issues in surrey area

Had my root canal this morning, driving there OK, driving back.. 8 fallen trees including 1 big one only being held up by phone lines.. I drove very fast under that one!

Well, the wire (turned out to be 3 core - no idea why I had a reel of it, but wish I'd known a couple of weeks ago) snapped already. Luckily I noticed during a lull and managed to drag the panel into the most sheltered corner of our garden and lay it flat with the wooden picnic style table/benches on top.

The plan was to travel to my father's Friday afternoon as 1/2 term starts. School went on line, so we left home at 7 on the South Coast, and kept ahead of it up to Rutland. Blowing here, but not damaging.

Wind has picked up here in last few hours but nothing major. Had to get jobs completed before 1330 before they closed the bridge and go the long way around, that's now closed so the other roads will be chaos now that motorway is closed.

 

Best be clear and open in morning, I got things to do!

I opted to work from home today given that London got moved to a red warning. Admittedly I don't think the winds were quite as strong as I expected (although strong enough!) but I felt particularly vulnerable given my 20+ mile drive into Berkshire, especially driving through a forest!

Calmed down a lot here thank goodness. I have texted our regular fence repairer to get ourselves on the list. He lives round the corner and knows I am happy to leave the gate unlocked so he can turn up without notice.

 

Access to the rescue where I volunteer is severely restricted by fallen trees. Our vet nurse posted this after she searched for a route out. Red is blocked. Green is good.

This area was really battered by Arwen, power outages, fallen trees, the works. This time around, it’s perhaps been a bit breezier than usual but otherwise it’s fine. Actually has been quite nice and sunny today.

Here in west Kent, Hadlow village has been without power since Friday. A tree came down right across the main A26 and took a power cable with it.

 

They’re cold and bored according to local FB group. The eta for power back is tomorrow afternoon which means the school can’t open.
