Modifying iSAMS Reports... how to setup the connection is SSRS
River replied to CyBeRkId2002's topic in MIS Systems
You need to setup the Data Source - which is the connection to the iSAMS database. If you don't have the name and login details you will need to raise a ticket to get them from iSAMS -
The activities module has never worked for us, and there does not appear to be any development in that area. We want to customise who some detention/sanction emails go to and are limited in this. I have just spent most of this morning rewriting the new exam access export so that it can run from pupil manager and work for how we need it as the new export does not work as well as the previous version. The inability to save old contact details, and the big one is that our SEN department mostly save the data in SharePoint as they find Student Registers unworkable. I think it doesn't help that most of the development is going towards areas we don't use and don't think we ever will. It does still have strong points, but we do need to look at other products to see if there is a better fit

Likewise, I am sure that we will be jumping ship at some point. I know that no MIS will be a perfect fit but currently I am finding iSAMS is becoming less and less of a good fit
-
So we have been an iSAMS school for sometime, and it seems to me that it is no longer fit for purpose. They keep promising changes (the mythical Curriculum Manager) that then don't happen, other parts of the system are woefully neglected and they keep wanting to charge for new modules at extortionate prices. And now we finally have the promised update to Exam Access Arrangements which does not appear to include an easy way for teaching staff to see which pupils in their class will need help in exams. Is anyone else using iSAMS and feeling the need to change? Has anyone switched to a different MIS - if so which one? Or feel free to join in my anti-iSAMS rant!!

Haven't had any problems after the reboot - just the annoyance of unexpectedly rebooting!
-
It causes no problems on some PCs, reboots in the middle of working on others and slowness until rebooted on others for us
-
Hi, We have had some PCs restart when they shouldn't have, and it looks to be KB5074109 as a quick google shows it has caused other issues such as slowness and the favourite BSOD! If you can, I would avoid this update River

Just started King Sorrow by Joe Hill. His dad is Stephen King who I am a fan of, and read pretty much most of his work in my teens. Now I am preferring Joe's work, I am finding him a better writer

Corn Air Wild Rat Heart -
Same here! Assuming that it is related to the Microsoft outages, and once someone has had their cornflakes it will be sorted. Will give it a while and then raise a ticket

Compliance and Operation management

We use SharePoint and Power Automate to manage Polices - reminder emails for when they need reviewing, approval process that then creates PDFs, looking into uploading the PDFs to various locations as the next part of the process. -
No, we have on prem which was installed ages ago
-
We use Card Exchange which writes the Mifare ID to Paxton and AD (in different formats). I think it was easy to setup, and to print a card just click on the user and print. Would go with on prem printer as you can print as required. Our printer is really old too but still works.

Me as well please?

Bit tricky to answer without seeing the setup but the SharePoint permissions should not affect the Power Automate. Are you using the Person field for the user? I have setup automates that use a list function to create SharePoint folders with specific edit permissions and then email the person who can edit the folder. If you want to DM me happy to have a look at what you have
-
Annoyingly yes. There is no global setting for this in the SharePoint admin grrrrr...
-
Strange. Once I changed the regional and locale setting to UK all of ours show in the correct (UK) format
-
If the List is a SharePoint list then it could be the regional settings are set to the default US. I have to remember every time I setup a new SharePoint site to change the regional settings to UK formatt

We use iSAMS and MSP - it pulls the exam timetables, results and can pull access arrangements as well if you enable that content. They had a change to the exam options a while ago which are a huge improvement - and pupils can enable their parents/guardians to see results as well if they want. What are the specific thing you need from a Portal? That might be easier to address than what it can't do!

Be intrigued to see if the Curriculum Manager does actually show up in January having been promised it so many times before! Would be good if the improvements to reporting and access to data via Power-BI come soon. Would have liked to see some of the responses to the Q&A as I had several similar questions.
