Yeah, I wondered what it was to be honest - initially thought it was on the telly.

 

When they sent out the test message last year, my phone did sod all as it doesn't fully support 4G. As I got one this time, I think they must have sent it over GSM as well.

Whilst the last day at BETT is usually quiet, it does seem today that the storm may be keeping some who were to travel in from the north, away today, especially given the cancellation of flights and trains, and speaking to some exhibitors on the way into ExCeL it appears some may be getting away quite early.

 

How many of your schools will be closed today? The news seems to be very focussed on specific areas (for good reasons) and it would be interesting to see just (geographically speaking) whre this seems to kick in around the country.

The weather was very wet and windy when I got up this morning (around 3:00 am) It's currently sunny and settled.

It was pretty windy overnight in West Kent. Our bins went walk about and had to be retrieved from round the garden

As I may have mentioned just once or twice before, I live in Dumfries and Galloway. Large swathes of D&G were affected by the Red warning but luckily for me, I am somewhat south of it so for me it was ‘just’ Amber.

 

Power went out for the entire village at about 10.30 yesterday, along with a large amount of other villages in the area. Mobile phone signal was lost about 15-20 minutes later which I guess must the runtime of the mast’s UPS! Power didn’t come on again until about 12.30 today. No power, heat or communications in the meantime. Luckily we have a gas hob fed by propane bottles so we could at least cook and heat water, but I had to do it by torchlight!

 

We went out to Dumfries today and there was a lot of blown over trees and broken power/phone lines in the road on the way there, but we’ve had it pretty easy compared to people further north. All things considered it could have been a lot worse here.

Had a thunder storm and 2 power cuts this evening. Lasted for about 10-15 minutes each time.

We had a few drops of rain and were obviously just outside the more lively weather - sort of a shame as I want to see my Tesla PW3 auto-power backup kick in for real one day!

All the schools are closed in this area due to being within the red alert area.

Staff seem to be coming into our office a lot as we have air con, and the computer rooms are fully booked....

We're closed tomorrow and Thursday. Staff have been told they can come in if they want to (as we have several rooms with air con), but otherwise can stay home.

 

Pretty much every other school locally has done the same, as have all the ones in the next town over where the wife works (she even finished at lunch time today!)
