CHiLL Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Mine is as well (Dual aircon units FTW!) - I may/may not have decamped into it this afternoon! We only have one unit, which failed the other week. We had it repaired and now have quotes for a second unit for redundancy/reduced load. Good job it didn't fail today and I hope it lasts until at least the end of tomorrow!
DrCheese Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Yarp that's how we got our second unit as well - The primary one failed a number of summers ago which quickly shot the temperature up in the server room to the point where we had no choice but to shut the servers off. Installed pretty quickly after that!
StevieM Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Pint # 7 (or 8) of something else when you get in? Made it home, finishing my 6th pint of water along the way. Checked the temperature (36), covered myself in sun lotion and took myself into the garden with this. Thankfully, in real life, it isn’t sideways so didn’t spill. 4
Dos_Box Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 It's already yesterdays peak temp of 30 degrees here!
jhothersall Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 We had both comms room on the top floor trip yesterday ... lucky for me I'm in the middle of the college but in a air-conditioned room .. 19c :-)
mikes Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 I'm so sweaty, it's my last day today then I break up for a week for the summer hols, won't be back in for a week. Kinda nervous about the aircon in the server rooms, unfortunately I'm the only IT guy here and the caretakers won't touch anything server/IT related. Guess I can set up a rule for the vhost temps?
round2it Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 nice and cool here ,looks like im doing paperwork today
ITGuyNW Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 The perfect solution to the hottest day on record.. OFSTED call 1
paulkerton Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 The perfect solution to the hottest day on record.. OFSTED call When do you finish for the summer? We finish tomorrow, so that would definitely end up with a deferral!
psydii Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Funny... Thread title = Met Office Red Weather Warning [Risk To Life]... Content = Yeah, yeah, but how hot are your servers?! Obligatory XKCD. 4
ITGuyNW Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 (edited) When do you finish for the summer? We finish tomorrow, so that would definitely end up with a deferral! We finish friday however we are currently day 1 of a 2 day sports day and thursday/friday pupils are out on trips! I believe they're trying to defer it.. edit: Successfully deferred!! DeGrimmy Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Scary - Breaking the all-time UK temperature record before midday...
StevieM Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 As well as thirsty, is this hot weather making anyone else really hungry? Maybe it's because I was awake quite a lot during the night, that my body thinks I've been depriving it of food for longer, but I've been ready for lunch since about 10.30. I've just polished off a peppered mackerel salad, with home-made coleslaw and two rounds of multi-grain bread and butter, followed by a banana, and I'm still hungry. I think I may need to indulge in one of the pastries in the staff room...

JU-wishingmoon Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Eat away - you will soon sweat it off.. .albeit rather fishy . 1
Koldov Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 There are quite a few 'interesting' smells in the corridors and classrooms. There are always kids that smell bad (not necessarily due to the heat), but it is making it much, much worse...

Rob_D Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Scary - Breaking the all-time UK temperature record before midday... TBF most of the forecasts I've seen suggest that while temp has ramped up more quickly through the morning than yesterday, it's going to peak earlier and then let off a bit through the afternoon. (At least in the south) Apparently the block of warm air (the "heat dome"??) over the UK peaked at about ten last night.
smurfomatic Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 Love the fact they've shortened the timings for some County Championship cricket today - start at 11, finish at 4.30! Great day to be on the fielding side...

Rob_D Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 A provisional reading of 40.2C has been recorded at Heathrow airport... https://app.weathercloud.net/map#EGLL (As of now, it's holding at 39)
Ditto Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 https://app.weathercloud.net/map#EGLL (As of now, it's holding at 39) Yikes, our village observatory is showing 40C. Someone asked me if I wanted to play tennis at 1:30pm - I declined!
Ditto Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 but oddly, one within a few hundred metres is reading 35 - seems a big variation?
6Foot2 Posted July 19, 2022 Author Posted July 19, 2022 Link: [Met Office Picture Tweet] Many sites across the country have now beaten the previous temperature record of 38.7 °C, with temperatures rising above 40 °C for the first time 👇
round2it Posted July 19, 2022 Posted July 19, 2022 39 degrees here, Lots of paperwork getting done in the server room
