This might be a case of teaching to suck eggs, but yes, I can confirm these are pants; 4 currently dead for power issues on my desk.

 

Though to be fair, once we got through the mountain of red tape the replacement process was fairly quick.... that is if they turn up.

Had a geobook replaced yesterday by computacenter and got a much nicer dell back.

 

An actual guy from not sure where came and swapped it. We only needed a replacement power supply.

 

The message on the portal said it would be replaced in 2 business days but they didn't give me a date until I chased them up 4 days later.

If you read back through this thread, there are a few options available 😊

 

I'd suggest a clay pigeon shooting range, that'd be fun. And immensely satisfying.

We've had issues with the screen backlightwith these Geobooks. Also had a few where the screen has been damaged buy the user. Does anyone know where to get a replacement screen for these devices?

The HP-G7's are not appropriate for our environment.

 

Fair enough - looking at general experience the Geobooks aren't appropriate for any environment - except maybe as prop fake laptops in a play ;)

We had a lot of Geobooks but were sent 8 HP 255 G7s last week. G7s are a lot better than the Geobooks, although still lower spec than what we would buy.

Hi I just thought to post here, I am an external contractor who has been approached by a couple of local schools about screen replacements for these, I found BOE NT116WHM-N44 work fine, as long as you chop the top two mounts off.

 

As long as its 11.6, 30 Pin (on the right hand side) any generic panel would fit these.

 

Every single one of these I have pulled apart have had different panels installed.

I really get the feeling these have been built using 'spare parts' from other off the shelf products.

 

Maybe I'm just cynical though.

I dont think your wrong, most of the internal is the battery. Which I think is the same with each unit but to be honest, I wasnt paying attention to them while replacing the screens. The mainboard itself is tiny and is passively cooled by a sheet of copper.

Could well be factory B grade stock being used to build them up. To be fair, I've found them OK for what they are. Not something I'd buy and I don't think they'll last long, but not really bad. Other than the charger, that looks very cheap.

One thing I'd noticed and was surprised about while opening one up to retrieve a lost SD card, that these laptops have a M.2 slot so there is the ability to expand the internal storage if someone wanted to. Not something I'd ever expect to see on bargain-basement Chinese laptops.

We decided to leave them with the students for homework/catchup and will ask for them back at the end of the year. we still have some spare which we have ready in case of a bubble closure!

Same here, we didn't build them with the ability to connect to any domain! and you would need conditional access to make sure they were clean before being allowed back on surely?

Everyone's blinded by COVID testing so laptops are not getting any thought!

Same, need to mitigate for a positive test and a bubble being sent home, especially whilst the testing is being done in school and is "verified". We have our Year 11 & 13 students scheduled to bring them back in early June, with the rest in mid July.

We're getting them all loan laptops returned as it was a mix of Government ones and some of our own from the Library or Science trollies.

 

Once they are all sorted through and data removed I've suggested we loan the GOV ones back out to the most needy, I don't really want them in school!

Just started looking at building these with MDT, but having no luck with PXE booting. We have BE109's but for the life of me can't get it to recognise the USB-Ethernet adapter.

Have a Microsoft adapter, not tried with the previously recommended StarTech one yet.
