To get the 1E Geobooks to PXE boot with a suitable USB NIC (we went for the Star Tech USB31000S) make sure in the Bios you go to the Boot setting and enable the Network Stack Driver Support. Should then happily work with MDT/MECM etc.

Should then happily work with MDT/MECM etc. We've ended up pretty much writing these off. We found when the battery dies so do all settings in the BIOS! We now send these out to classess where there is a high probability of damage!

I have this working on some of them i did in the summer, but now it just won't work. Fixed this... well I have a solution. Load in safemode, install the drivers, windows doesn't load at all. GO into the recover options and reset the machine using the local files. loads back up with all drivers installed and working... Crazy Machines...
Boredguy Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Not noticed any issue on any of ours, and I reinstalled them all in the Summer via MDT with a task specifically to run the powershell script to install any of the additional drivers that it needs.
petben Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 I have finally got round to looking at these after hiding them for a year, got out 4 and 2 will not power on despite being charged for a couple of hours. There is a red light on the charging port, the charger tests OK, but it just will not power on. Is this a known issue? I am not crazy about going through some painful process with DFE to get them swapped out. Truly terrible hardware.

tadcooke Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Could be just dead batteries - we've got a pile of dynabooks from the scheme which haven't been on for about a year and now won't take any charge, they run fine when plugged in but its like there's no battery in there. Replacement battery ~£80 is very much not worth it... plus the warranties have all expired so no chance of DfE being interested.

I died a little inside when I was greeted by dozens of these horrid little Geo 1Es at the new schools having dealt with them at my last place (thankfully my ex colleague had dealt with the majority of them). In my new role, we're basically saying no to these in their native format; they're garbage and teaching staff know this. Has anyone had any luck running ChromeOS Flex on them? Do they behave any better?

Equally it could just be that the student was using it on a radiator! Wow that's pretty shocking. Never seen one with a bulging battery. Usually the display backlights fail for us. We've phased them out now. We have some Lenovo 100e's and Dell Latitude 3190's and they are much better than the Geobooks which are basically better used as coffee mats.
