I was listening to an interview with someone at the Royal Ballet yesterday. The dancers are back in training wearing masks.

 

The lead dancers are working in bubble pairs so they can do lifts, but they still all have to wear masks without exception during training and during the forthcoming production.

 

If they can wear masks during such athletic pursuit, I suspect there are very few who would be seriously struggling when wearing a mask.

Ok I need the opinion of the hive mind here to make sure I'm not going or already gone mad lol with covid lol.

 

We purchased a bunch of identical USB powered visualisers for the school to standardise on the make and model.

 

Instead of them being put into every classroom like I wanted to, they're now being issued to staff directly. Who have to carry them from room to room throughout be the day, due to the bubbles in the schools. The visualisers also includes a heavy base for it to sit in on the desk.

 

They're not carrying their own keyboard and mouse with them everytime to lessons so to me, they just wipe then down - so this makes no sense to me

 

Or is it just me? [emoji33][emoji848]

You could make an argument that all equipment should be issued to staff and not shared (not one that convinces me) but even if you were, this is completely undermined by the fact they're sharing keyboards and mice.

I think everyone is aware that viruses and other disease can certainly be transmitted by touch.

 

If they couldn’t, there would be little point in having such radical hygiene regimes in hospital. I think Florence Nightingale first got on top of the cleanliness thing.

 

Now while Covid may be more greatly transmitted through the air, it still makes sense to keep things clean.

Yep, this one is a bit of a shocker! Firstly, someone must have through. It doesn't really have the feeling of a world beater.

The call-centre-based test & trace system is Serco, but the app is NHSX and Serco haven't been near it (thankfully). I was never going to let the first Cummings version of this app near my phone, but this version seems alright. This could go in one of three threads, but here will do.

 

On Thursday, I got a phone call from a local number that I didn't recognise; I didn't answer it. When I did a search, it came up as a generic number used by the NHS for appointments, reviews, etc. There was no mention of test and trace in the reports, but I thought I'd better call it back anyway - just in case. Of course, the number didn't take incoming calls.

 

"If it's important, they'll call back," I thought to myself.

 

About 10 minutes ago, I received a text from... NHS Test & Trace. Uh, oh! :pray:

 

The message read:

This is a public health message from NHS Test & Trace. Please download the NHS COVID-19 app from the App Store/Google Play. More info at https://covid19.nhs.uk

 

My response? A mixture of relief and amusement as I scrolled through the text on my Doro 6620 flip phone! :rofl:

Why don’t all schools get most support staff working at home?

 

All support staff (apart from the receptionist and maybe one or two others) have been roped in here to help with duties. As due to the staggered break and lunch times, there are not enough staff to cover all duties now. This seems to be the same in a lot of other schools too.

Same for us. I have my first "roundabout duty" on Friday. Lucky for me, the ICTNS team only have 1 duty a week each as we still have all our normal work to do.

Most of our support staff now got involved in lunch and break duties. But not us. Working from home is not something that HT likes staff to do, despite many proofs it works really well.

 

On another note, just got back from Covid test, started coughing at school this morning really badly almost constantly - HR said go home and book a test. So I did. Same day test, booked around 1 pm for test to take place 3pm.

 

I could choose walk in test center or drive through one - this one was 61 miles away, walk in was 9 miles away. So I choose walk in, drove there, took me 5 minutes to find a parking, just to be told they do drive through tests as well ::doh.

 

I was the only person there to get tested, lost of booths and staff around. Just checked now for test availability "We’re sorry. There are currently no tests available in your area". Will find out in 48h

 

I feel like I have a cold and probably that what it is, but rules are rules.

I mostly am. I'm also not going onsite to 2 primaries until after the kids have gone home. Then masked, gloved, flinging open windows and doors, spraying and wiping as I go.

Getting home, clothes straight in the wash and me in the shower.

Looks like the CC/local Uni/NHS are getting together. Might just be a trial as my other 2, which are pretty close by, haven't said anything (yet?). Mind you, that school are quite on the ball about such things and are my only site with reasonable social distancing and the also give out flu jab vouchers each year.

 

Well, spat in a container this morning, dropped off to school en route to another site, was due to be picked up @ 1000h and just checked my texts: 1830 got all clear.

Who’s on swing duty, though? :p

 

Funnily enough, for the last few years, I’ve been rostered on playground duties every morning and every afternoon, plus lunchtime clubs several times a week. Since we came back in September, I’ve not been asked to do a single one.

People should work from home whenever they have a cold too

I agree. The world changed in 2020. Online working from home for a whole host of reasons will remain in to the future. This needs to be embraced, not resisted.
