I'm being forced to come on site, because I might be needed to plug a projector's VGA cable in, or swap out a mouse. Our school is basically continuing as if nothing has happened, minus face masks, a one way system and hand sanitizer. I thought there were year group "bubbles" but I'm expected to breach that if there's a problem in a classroom.

Our BM hates the lockdown, she basically came in every day during lockdown and resented other people being off.

I've said it before and will again, approach HSE. Reckless behaviour by BM's or any other colleagues are putting others at risk and it's not acceptable.

People are terrible at managing this kind of risk, "I've texted while driving 100s of times without crashing", and doesn't help that it's invisible, because it's smaller than the wavelength of visible light.

People don't understand exponential growth either.

Now add to that that teachers are screwed, they basically have a 100% chance of being infected if someone in their class is, can't stay in a room for days on end without it happening, so outside of that room they don't really care.

Now add to that it's going to go on for at least a year, people don't do emergency measures for something that probably doesn't affect them for a whole year, unless that behaviour is normalised.

And then in the end because of the external measures applied, they probably won't be infected, or if they are, won't even know, so will think they were right all along.

I work in a relatively long thin office.

I'm at one end (1/4) with an external door behind my desk at the other end (3/4) there are two technicians with a door leading to a passage off the science corridor.

It's been decided to build a Perspex barrier between us so we can effectively be isolated from each other so that if either I or they have to self isolate there is no need for us all to be off.

They have the kettle but I have the heater and the window! :p

We have a fair few teachers isolating now; someone will cover the lesson but the isolating teacher will still deliver the lesson via webcam; the laptop will face the class so that the teacher can see them via webcam; and the teacher is then projected on the board.

Be interesting to see how well this works, a lot of our staff have big trouble operating the classroom speakers, because the volume knob needs to be pushed in for 3.5" input, and pushed out for HDMI audio, and that just baffles, confuses, and frightens most of our staff.

First confirmed case in school! Yr8 kid tested positive on the 12th September! We... were only told yesterday by the parent. Fantastic. Not significant information at all. Not like you've waited the entire self-isolation period before mentioning it to us, so that anyone else who might have been contagious has been circulating the entire time. Well done you.

ETA: apparently the parent "didn't know they had to inform us", despite being told repeatedly in letters from us, on the news, on social media advertising... [cuts off rant about other people before it grows like a cancer to consume the whole thread]

In times of a pandemic your pandemic causing health issue that you have no control over and has no stigma attached should be forwarded to the required parties automatically

I have no supermarket loyalty and use them all from time to time depending...

Got this in the email from ASDA this morning:

If a customer does not have a covering when they enter the store, they will be offered a pack of disposable masks that they can pay for as they complete their shopping.

Gets my approval.

While I can appreciate that the idea is probably a good one. It kind of feels a little like profiteering and really rubs me up the wrong way. The whole idea kind of reminds of when Big Issue sellers have just handed me the paper while I've been distracted and then I have to pay for it otherwise I look like a right git.

?!?

What an absolutely bizzare take.

If you wish to enter, you wear a mask.

If you don't have one, you have two options. Buy one as you walk in, or leave and don't enter at that point. You can go get your own mask, or find a store that will break the law and let you in without one.

I get that. My sister works in a clothes shop, and when they opened up they offered free paper masks. People were picking them them up in multiples, so they then started handing them out individually, then people were going into the shop to get the mask, and going straight out again. It’s a fine balance between making them free - which they could, and it being abused.

Your distracted enough to let someone put something in your hand

On subject, I they are not quite the same thing. If you turned up to supermarket but you forgot your mask would it not be better to get a mask then go back home. If you left it in your car then that is a bit easier but still at least the option is there.

How do they deal with people who then do not pay after given a mask?

How do they deal with shoplifters?

OK They are both technically stealing and still shoplifting

They offer the mask instead of turning people away unless they are exempt and personally I'd prefer to pay for the mask instead of the drive home or I'd be making sure I take my own mask.

People seem to be forgetting that some people CAN'T wear a mask - and then do not have to

Of course - a lot of people who SAY that they are exempt actually just don;t want to - but at least they can be asked and their word accepted with no judgement

after all only the Police have any actual power to enforce this - and therefore require some kind of proof

Better news

went to Tesco this morning because I forgot some bits - they seem to have changed their policy and most of the staff are now wearing masks - when I say most - I mean I saw one person with his mask round his neck but he was lifting some heavy stuff so that might just have been temporary when he was breathing heavily

It's probably doing it's job best when the wearer is breathing heavily.

At work people who are exempt are asked to wear a specific colour lanyard. Lecturers also have power to put lessons online if people refuse to wear masks unless exempt or risk assessments are done in the rooms.

We have also been asked to wear mask outside if social distancing cannot be practical.

Went abroad twice in August and the thing that surprised me most is EVERYONE wears a mask. No exceptions. It's a simple case of no mask = no entry.

I asked some locals about people who couldn't and they said there is no reason why they can't wear a mask and if they can't wear a mask they are too at risk to be out at the moment so stay at home or don't go inside venues.

In the UK I think the gammon population have the ears of TPTB and think that everybody wants to admire their shiny pink faces, hence lots of exemptions.
