Ohhhhhhh...BOTTOM! This is really going to upset my mum. I know she'll allowed to form a bubble with either me or my brother's family, but it's still going to affect her badly.

 

On a separate note (no pun intended), the Liverpool Phil has the first of a series of socially-distanced concerts* scheduled for tonight. This will be a major blow if they have to cancel again and/or refund tickets. I was supposed to be going to one on Sunday, but I'm not sure now. :(

 

*1 hour concerts with no interval, reduced orchestra, maximum audience of 240 in a ~2000 seat venue, separate entrances, face coverings worn at all times.

that sounds good - probably have to be cancelled now - but I will keep an eye out for them in future!

That would be classed as inside. What you need is bus shelters....

 

Is there a definition of 'inside'?

 

a lot of places could partially function with separate shelters - with no walls - like maybe a beer garden with a roof over each table

 

at least they could stay open in rainy weather

 

I just haven't seen anything saying what the limits are

 

mind you with the weather getting colder outdoor settings are getting less attractive by the day

Given inside has 6 walls/floors/ceilings, 1 ceiling and no walls can't be inside. I'm thinking just the roof, no sides. 3 should be fine too, 4 surfaces would be pushing it

I mean, wouldn't the easiest thing be to use the smoking ban definitions of outside and inside? :D

Well on the bright side, at least we were told about this positive case...

 

Starting to get very paranoid in our office now. We have a staff case, we have student cases, and we have every man and their dog coming into our office or calling us into theirs. I'm getting very demanding about mask wearing round here.

To Staff,

 

In an effort to keep everyone safe and minimise risk, the IT Support team have clarified some procedures.

 

Please could you read through the message below and make sure you are familiar with the protocols.

 

I would be good if departments did an audit of their IT room early this week and check everything is working.

 

Pleaser can everyone check that they are able to:

 

Change a pupil's password

 

 

 

To protect the school's IT Support team from COVID-19 and ensure there is always IT support available please adhere to the following advice:

 

Each morning check your room to ensure your computer, projector, sound systems and IWB's etc are fully operational so that any faults can be rectified before students arrive at school.

If you require a loan of items from IT Support please give enough notice so that they can be left in your pigeon hole or collected the day before they are needed.

Do not send students to the IT Support Office unless absolutely necessary

Passwords can be changed by using the shortcut on your desktop

Printer credits can be topped up remotely

Ensure any IT rooms are checked regularly for missing keyboards and mice so that replacements can be installed before students arrive.

When returning any items loaned from IT Support please ensure they are fully wiped down with antiviral wipes

For all support requests try telephoning or email first, rather than turning up at the door.

 

Whenever possible, visits to classrooms to fix and repair IT hardware etc will be scheduled when lessons are not taking place.

 

If it's not possible to rectify any IT support issues by email or telephone then please use the door off the Science corridor for the technicians or the external door to IT Support if you need to speak to the Network Manager.

 

Shortly a screen will be installed to partition the IT Support Office between the technicians and the IT Manager to reduce the risk of the whole team needing to self-isolate.

 

We will, as always, continue do our very best to support you all with your IT needs.

Says a lot about the level of faith the deputy has in the staff that each message is repeated several times...

We instigated and they acted - all good !

This should be a model letter sent out by DfE to all heads to pass on to all staff.

Yes, it is not a pretty picture. Will be interesting to see how the media react to this. With the omni-shambles going on with the other side of the Atlantic right now, I'm hoping for a better week ahead. I suspect the mandatory online teaching requirement is a strong indicator that the 2 week 'circuit-breaker' over half term is becoming more likely.

Aye will be interesting to see, especially when you consider they're talking about this 2 week isolation for uni students before christmas too. Seems to be the new common idea as you mention

I see the numbers went up over the weekend due to some lost data, of course they blamed IT

... and as far as I can tell, with no details, just a nebulous 'IT glitch' statement, which is up there with the dog ate my homework. Someone, or more likely several people, made an error. That's not great, but it happens, it's part of human make-up. The 'it's an IT error' is ducking the truth. Also, why couldn't they assign the newly discovered cases to the days they related - it would then give a true, albeit retrospective, picture of the growth. The two day crazy spike followed by an inevitable drop, is not a true picture. As I said, when I first saw the figures, it does nothing for confidence.

I understand this viewpoint at present. I try to take a more balanced view, but also to try to keep on the right side of the mods for you-know-what! Funny thing is, I feel I know quite a few heads that seem to work on a make it up as you go. For some, it's managing effectively day-to-day challenges, for others it is lack of planning. It's a tricky thing being in a position of responsibility.

I went shopping yesterday for my weekly shop. Most people were wearing masks but people still seem to have forgotten there's a pandemic on. The amount of people just rifling through produce and touching everything was insane.
