This is a concerning development.

40 Children in the last two weeks (as of 7th May) have been treated by the Evelina. GOSH is also now handling cases, with an alert being sent to all hospitals about the novel condition.

 

To summarise, otherwise asymptomatic children are presenting with serious inflammatory disease that puts them into ICU. While they often initially don't test for positive for Covid-19, they do tend to test positive later on, suggesting that children can be susceptible to an alternative immune system response that are just as dangerous, but not as well recognised for what they are.

 

Currently most/all patients have been BAME, but this could be due to population the Evelina serves.

"THE BEACHES ARE OPEN...." Well maybe, but the toilets at the beaches ARE NOT open.

 

I went on a different bike ride yesterday - there is a pub there on the banks of the Mersey - very nice place and normally crowded on a nice day

clearly it is currently closed but the owners still live there

 

It is now totally fenced off by security fences with a notice on it saying this is because of the abuse they have been getting from people crowding onto the beer garden - and the same people using the beer garden as a toilet because the pub is closed

 

and all this was before any mention of a relaxation of the lockdown!!

We have family in Italy and they mentioned this to us back at the end of March. They said that it looked like a slightly different variant of the virus was badly affecting children there.

Personally I'm not going to change my habits just yet.

 

I'm in a position where I can work from home, I go out 4-5 times a week for runs and once for shopping. I live in a flat on my own, I miss the weekly Parkrun, socialising, contact with friends and relatives that is for sure but I am just not comfortable doing anything but what is absolutely necessary both from a point of passing anything on or getting the virus and unknowingly passing it on. I had the symptoms up to just over a month ago.

 

Im working from home too, I still live with my parents so the only time I go out is for runs. I go 4-5 times a week too but going to make the distance bigger so I can run in a loop where people wont be.

I live in the middle of a town so all my runs have been 10km or less on footpaths around the town. Now that its unlimited and more than the suggested hour, I will be going one direction where humans never really go but its further than 10km away.

So - apparently it will soon be time to introduce compulsory quarantine for travellers arriving in the UK

unless they come from Eire or France

 

 

and on the new today (and mentioned previously) the EU countries are starting to relax the borders and go back to free movement

 

so imagine someone coming to e.g. Liverpool for a business meeting - from e.g. Berlin

If they come from Berlin direct to Liverpool then they have to quarantine for 14 days before having their meeting

 

if however they fly to Paris then to Liverpool then they can go directly to their meeting then fly direct back to Berlin

 

I'm not sure that all this has been thought through properly

I think it is great that Boots are doing all these tests for the NHS and care homes and everyone else for free

 

I mean - if they are asking for volunteers to do the tests then clearly they are not charging for the tests

Many members of my extended family, all working in the private sector, have had their pay cut due to the virus. Some are key workers. Not only do they face no pay rises, but they also face a long wait to get their pay restored. I doubt anyone in the public sector has had a pay cut.

 

This doesn’t make a pay freeze for public sector key workers sit comfortably with me, but any freeze does need to be taken in context.

FT are doing comparisons of death rates over the normal level for various countries

It is pretty sobering and I now see why the Government stopped showing us graphs of how our death rate compared to other nations in their daily briefings.

It also makes a mockery of the new "back to work" motto, alot of people have been killed by incompetence.

So let me get this clear. My husband has to work and be in contact with loads of people but I’m not allowed to hug my sister and I can sunbathe in the park with multiple strangers if I stay 2 metres away from them but can’t sunbathe with 2 of my friends, even 2 metres apart. Got it.

 

I know they are relying on common sense - eg I SHALL let a friend come into my garden (open back gate, brings her own drink) to socialise with me at 2m distance of course. But honestly - as someone said: I know, I will get my sons (who live away from me) to be cleaners or somesuch and then they can come into my house.

 

Did anyone see the marketing guy explaining how the new slogans are very deliberately chosen - and are in place so that the blame is shifted on us.

You can put your house up for sale - then they can come round to see you and look at the house

probably from the chairs in the lounge

 

or you can hire them to come and clean the house

 

or you can do what out next door neighbours do and just have them round every damn day anyway (significant muttering has been going on here - wife probably can't see the grandkids for many weeks due to shielding so it really annoys us when we hear nextdoor sitting in the garden with family and grandkids)
