FishCustard Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Easyjet - cancelled flight because of Covid again refund given in EasyJet vouchers - not really happy with that - I would prefer refund to my card directly please They cannot refuse cash refunds - EC261 regs (see here and many other places). If you've not taken the vouchers then push them on it. Alternatively if you paid with a credit card and EasyJet really want to play hardball you could do a chargeback, or a Section 75 claim if the amount was over £100. (Remember - if you do take a voucher you are reliant on the airline being in existence when all this is over! Not guaranteed for pretty much anyone but BA.)

We are taking on BA over the voucher offer for cancelled flights later this year. We want the money! 1

FishCustard Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 One thing I've noticed in my home office - my lighting is not up to scratch for working with. Normal LED bulbs only seem to provide about 800 lumens of light, same as a 60W bulb. Nowhere near bright enough to stay engaged in front of a computer all day. Might be worth taking a look at your own lighting too, if you've been feeling sluggish/sleepy after a relatively short period sat in front of your computer, not to mention eyestrain. Just ordered some better lighting for myself, but in the meantime I've added an extra lamp to bring the brightness up a bit. I'd recommend full-spectrum bulbs (you can get CFL and LED variants), and as you say, make sure they're 100W-incandescent-equivalent or better.
Disease Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Who will look after the key workers' children during those days? No idea, the Head has mandated we are closing down to allow any virus present on site to die off, saves deep cleaning I suppose

Ditto Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I think, for most of us, it is! My wife's in a similar predicament, she has to take holiday that she has booked, regardless of whether we can actually go on holiday or not. I looked at this amendment. My reading of it is that this is there to protect those who *have* to work rather than those who *choose* to work - i.e. if you are a key-worker and have your holidays cancelled (or you cannot book any time off) then at the end of the holiday year you can carry forward some to the following years. Also, the press release reads like it applies only to the statutory minimum number of days (20), so once you have taken that then all other days are lost. The key wording appear to be "Where it is not reasonably practicable for a worker to take some, or all, of the holiday to which they are entitled due to the coronavirus, they have a right to carry the 4 weeks under regulation 13 into the next 2 leave years." That's not particularly clear without guidance as to what 'holiday' is and what 'reasonably practicable' is. My 'holiday' is cancelled directly due to C-19. If there was relaxation of travel in say October, I could take what I call holiday. If I have to take forced annual leave by end of May, it won't be a holiday. Whilst we are in exceptionally times we all need to be flexible, but this wording leaves employees and employers in an unclear situation which is more likely to induce bad feelings and complaints. 1

keyboards Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 I've been trying to follow the last pages, I work all year round, I have no holiday booked, but am I reading it right I could be forced to take say two weeks at Easter, against my will?
localzuk Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Yes. Your employer has the right to direct when you take your leave (this isn't a new thing, that's always been the case). However, they must give 2 days notice for every day they wish you to take. So, if they want you to take 2 weeks, they must give 4 weeks notice. 4
jmak Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 On the other hand, my OH is working significantly extended hours (no agreement on additional pay), additional out of hours cover rota implemented and has had all annual leave cancelled for at least three months, but with the additional wording "and expected to continue for the duration of the emergency". That means no annual leave from three days taken in February until.... unknown. Even having a break booked helps with stress. Once annual leave is permitted again, the issue will be a restriction on the number of people allowed to be away at the same time, so the chances of getting it any time soon will still be slim. There are upsides - job security isn't an issue - which is a problem for plenty of people. But there are worse problems to have them being told to have paid time off.

It's a double edged sword for anyone who may use that one as next time you need leave the same rules apply, for example I hardly ever book leave until a week before Edited March 31, 2020 by Disease

hardtailstar Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 People are going to have to be very careful to separate work time and downtime now. My work laptop is in my home office. Ive set myself that I work from 8am-16:00 which is my normal working hours anyway with an hours lunch and couple of comfort/drinks breaks. At 16:00 the work laptop goes off and I go for some exercise. After that my home office is used for tv/gaming etc. Seems to work so far but I've cracked from the lack of social interaction in the real world. Went from being out almost every night with Scouting and other things to staying in every night. Im now video calling but its just not the same. 1

I've been trying to get as close to this as possible really, wake up, do the same hours, try to keep a sense of normality
3s-gtech Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Same. Work hours (roughly - I'm still adjusting to BST!) then at 4pm or so the laptop is off and I'm following my regular training routine days. As I'm being paid, I still need to approach work as professionally as I can.
kennysarmy Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 If only I could get my £650 back as easily from Your Golf Travel who cancelled our break 14 days ago and are refusing to refund us in line with Package Tour Regs 2018!
