6Foot2 Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Good morning all. Please make sure you don’t work this weekend unless there’s a dire emergency. It’s really hard, when you are working from home, to set boundaries but do try to make today and tomorrow different from your working week if you can. Your mental health needs this break. I had the same message from a senior member of staff last weekend. However, from another came a request framed with: "It won't take long. Could you just..." The rest of the request removed due to confidentiality concerns.

witch Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 mrwITch's company have now said that - presumably as things are working well with people working remotely - once all is back to normal they may then operate a "blue/green" system where half the workforce are working from home at any one moment. They were in the process of buying more workspace but now think they wont need it. Not sure how this will work - OK if you WANT to work from home but a lot of people couldnt easily do it long-term. Laptops set up on ironing boards in the corner of the room, that sort of thing. 1

Yes they need to think about how many people can work at home comfortably and safely, which is very different to how many people can manage in extraordinary times. I’m actually quite pleased with how our IT infrastructure has coped where I am. I was part of a project to deliver remote working for our worldwide group, doing things like handing out 1500 iPhone 11s in jan/feb/early March, but it’s working really well so far for our 5000-odd people, but a considerable number of those are ‘coping’ with wfh rather than enjoying it. I do think lots of businesses will be rethinking their plans for wfh, office space requirements, that kind of thing when the world returns to normal.

But if you know that this will be a frequent thing to do then the company should be able to help out with some dosh for a proper desk or table to make a proper set up presuming that you have the room, of course

6Foot2 Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 Link: Manchester City sign over use of the Etihad to the NHS during Covid-19 crisis [Metro.co.uk] Manchester City have donated the use of the Etihad Stadium to the National Health Service to aid the fight against coronavirus. The 55,000 seater stadium is likely to be used by the NHS to run training courses for staff involved on the frontline to treat the pandemic, according to Sky Sports. The government have sought creative solutions to the need for greater medical space in the last fortnight and work has begun on the Excel Centre in east London to be transformed into a hospital. With the peak of the pandemic expected in the UK in around a fortnight’s time, the government have ramped up use of facilities elsewhere and a temporary hospital is being prepared at the Manchester Central Convention Complex in the city centre...

6Foot2 Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 Social distancing? What's that? Standing shoulder to shoulder, and handling unsanitised pens. Poor example, as ever.
