Of course, it's hard to reason people out of a position they weren't reasoned into...

 

I had a FB post today with someone claiming that the virus does not spread by itself and that it's being spread on purpose for monetary reasons. When I asked for some actual evidence, they sent me about 3 pages of nonsense, everything from World leaders standing next to siblings (as they know it can't be spread) to some random vaccine trial. I am now being told I must join the dots between the evidence to reveal the truth. Try to reason with someone that sees the world from that viewpoint.

Whereas going out to cheer, clap, bang pots and pans etc has an instant effect on the mood of those being cheered for AND the rest of the nation vicariously.

We all need a little extra warmth an inspiration right now :)

Sure, let's just hope the NHS staff (or anyone else on your block) don't have young children you're scaring awake with all the noise :p

Oddly enough, both nights I'd just put my kids to bed (5 & 8) and forgotten about going out to applaud until it started. we had the church bell ringing, cheers from the streets and a few fireworks somewhere in the distance.

Both kids came down to see what the fuss was about and when I told them what it was for (we've been totally open and honest about this pandemic with them) they both said it was a very good idea and classed and whooped themselves.

 

It was really lovely.

Facetimed my bestie this afternoon. She has Crohn’s Disease and has to take immunosuppressants so she is self isolating in her Dad’s house (he died in January) away from her husband snd family because staying at home is too risky.

 

Her eldest is the same age as my daughter and a nurse at a well known London hospital. All leave has been cancelled for the rest of the year. She is having to drive from Kent for her shifts because the trains don’t run often enough. Hospital staff have been mugged in the car park for their NHS passes. She used to be able to work extra bank shifts for overtime pay. Now they’re having to work the bank shifts but not being paid for them.

 

Another friend works in retail and has been abused and called dirty by people because of her employment. Her brother, a bin man, has had similar problems.

 

I despair.

I despair.

The mugging is deeply offensive and I hope those caught are punished in the most severe way possible. Sadly many don't caught. Take comfort in the fact the the vast majority of people, as no doubt you have seen local and nationally as I have, are decent, caring people. I truly hope the country changes for the better when we come out the other side of this time and ALL key workers are valued so much more than they have been in recent decades.

Virgin Media are allowing you to pause your payments to Sky Sport and BT sport for the duration of the lack of live sport

 

Apparently you will still be able to watch the channels - you just don;t pay for them

 

Payment starts again automatically when sports start again

 

just search for virgin pause payment sky sports - then fill in a form - you will need you account number which you can find from "My Virgin Media"

Just heard that wife's uncle has died - he was in his 80s and had been in a care home with dementia for years

 

But he was still he uncle and she can;t go to the funeral - even if she wasn't confined to the house she wouldn't be able to go

 

and another, more distant, relative who is in his 90s has been diagnosed with this virus

 

 

Basically this is like a major war - none of us will get out of this without being affected

 

 

Wife has gone as far as saying that she is glad her Mum died last August - living through all this would have had her worrying constantly and it would have been torture for her

Sorry to hear that, Mike.

 

I lost dad a couple of years ago and mum left us in February (not Coronavirus) Now, of my closest relatives, I think I am most vulnerable to Coronavirus (a combination of age and hypertension)

 

Doing OK at the moment, thinking of everyone else.

Thanks - for me one of the worst things is that I can't even give her a hug

we have to sit on separate sofas and I have to sleep in the spare room - and I haven't even done anything wrong!!!!

I don't know if that has been posted before, but Folding@Home are running simluations to help with the Covid-19 outbreak. Their servers are taking a bit of a beating, so downloads can take a little while, but if anyone wants to install it on their PC and give some CPU cycles to them, feel free.

My godmother, also in her 80s with advanced dementia, died this afternoon.

 

To be honest, this is for the best. She hasn’t recognised anyone, including her daughter, for the last year.

 

She was my Mum’s best friend for over 60 years. Mum has taken the news OK.

 

Godmother’s daughter, who I have always thought of as a cousin, is going to have to cope with the funeral alone. She has no other family. :(

Just went to lock the front door (a little routine I have around this time in the evening)

 

I was surprised to find that the door was already locked. I said to Mrs. P. that she didn't normally lock the door. She said that it wasn't her. I was me after all, last evening.

 

We have been out today, but only out the back.
