How to obtain Flash MSI now

Hi all,

 

Where can I obtain an .MSI for the latest version of Flash player, Adobe used to have a distribution page you could grab the .msi files from, but they seem to have put an end to that.

 

Where can I get the latest version .msi from now?

Do have the redistribution licence? The email gives you a link to the download page.

As @sparkeh says, you have to sign up and apply for a distribution license, which last for a year before you have to renew again.

 

The link to apply for the license is as follows but will require sign in (it has a register link on the page though).

It's not actually that much more work, it's just the same procedure as before. You needed to be signed up for a distribution license before, it's just a different set of links now.

It is more work if you didn't necessarily bother with the applying for a license business, and just used the openly available download page.

 

Not that I would do such a thing to avoid pointless red tape, obviously....

I had an email saying I had been approved for distribution of Flash within 48hrs! So not sure why they've taken over a week for yourself.

It took 10mins for me to get a reply - maybe check your junk/spam, the entire email looks dodgy!

Likewise, my email for flash took around 12 hours to arrive. My Reader licence took longer, maybe 72 hours, but I got an 'apologies there is a delay in processig your application' email after 24 hours.

My request for the latest version (23) took about 10 minutes to be processed. Not sure if it takes longer if your account is newly created or not.

If you're using Windows 8 or later, you can deploy Flash updates via WSUS, just as you would other Microsoft updates. It's very easy and easier than deploying an MSI, but I appreciate for Windows 7 this will still be the case!

That is only Flash in the built in context of Active X if its the NAPI version it still needs manual patching.

Only Firefox uses NPAPI as Chrome uses PPAPI. So unless you use Firefox on your network, there's no requirement to deploy it

We're equally having a problem getting a reply from Adobe for a distribution license - I've now applied several times over a number of weeks, both using a school email address, and also using a school standalone gmail account - but had absolutely nothing back

That's odd; IIRC they normally get back pretty sharpish.

It shouldn't be a major security issue, bearing in mind ActivInspire doesn't connect to the web, only for updates to the core application itself. Obviously the browser is more of an issue, but that's why you can get away with it unless you're running Firefox in a domain... again something I avoid as there are no GPO templates I can use unlike Chrome or of course IE.

I already had a distribution agreement for flash, acrobat reader and shockwave and had to create an adobe id after they changed their website.

 

I sent a request for a new distribution licence twice but never got a reply, I tried adobes online support chat who directed me to adobes forums because it’s a free product.

I found a few people had created threads because they were experiencing problems obtaining the msi for flash. One user had reported that he had the agreement and adobe id but the link wasn’t working.

He included the download link in his thread which worked for me when I clicked on it, I still haven’t received a reply from adobe with my new agreement details yet…

For info, there is a deployable version of Firefox, put together by Front Motion - MSI for Firefox – FrontMotion. I've used it in the past, it has MSI and GPO support.

 

But yeah, no-one seems that interested in Firefox in schools these days, Chrome is hands down the more popular alternative browser.

Maybe but this isn't official channels, this is something that Mozilla should be doing anyway. You also have to consider support if something wasn't working as expected. It's something I don't quite understand why they haven't implemented if Mozilla wanted their product used more in Enterprise.

On my updated Windows 10 images (based on Redstone), I've done away with Acrobat Reader. Edge itself has a built in PDF reader and is set as the default on Windows 10 systems, especially when applying updates, even with Acrobat Reader installed... it just starts to become messy.

 

Again it's another thing to not worry about updating, as Edge receives updates along with the core updates of Windows 10 of course. If you do still require Acrobat Reader for older systems, you can still obtain it from their FTP site to the best of my knowledge.

I considered doing away with Adobe Reader on my W10 machines, but found that Edge was a bit of a poor substitute. For that matter I often have to use IE rather than Edge - even on some MS sites!

Yes I pre-set the majority of websites to use IE or Chrome (depending on requirements), but because Edge is getting a tiny bit better, plus it's the default PDF associated application. It's OK for 99% of PDFs in my experience.
