If we draw a cutoff point at say the year 2000 then:

Command and Conquer Red Alert

X-Wing Alliance

Unreal

Unreal Tournament (still a cracking game today and in the process of being remade)

Half Life (play it all the way through about once a year still!)

X-Wing vs Tie Fighter

Homeworld was a fav. My most played old games were the Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds games and then Command & Conquer games. Later on SWG (I was really into Star Wars not gonna lie).

I've always dipped in and out of pc gaming, never had good solid rigs to play games on...saying that.

Red Alert

Sims

Roms

Doom/Heretic? (can't remember name)

Half Life

Various Championship/Football managers

duke nukem 3s think i probably spent longer in level editor than playing

various command and conquer games (like the first dos one where the ai was so dumb you could build sandbags up to the enemy base and then block them in so they couldnt attack/harvest

voyager elite forces

doom/quake

carmageddon

gta 1/2/london

x wing alience and various prequels were some of my favourite and had the silly expensive (relatively for me as a kid/student) joystick that had a twist grip for rudder control and a throttle

secret of monkey islands 1/2

leisure suit larry

used to at one point take the pc (and prior to that amiga/atari) to a pub on a wednesday evening and a load of us would play serial link/lan games oh the joys of 10 base 10 networks and terminators but at least they were easy to extend / modify on the fly

I suppose mentioning Zork or Zaxxon is going to seriously date me? All those old Sierra "Quest" games took up hours of my childhood, and Blizzard's early games when I was in uni.

Now, if I can't play it on my phone on the Tube, then I sadly probably haven't got time for it.

We set up a Unreal tournament server at the college I was at and my fellow BTEC friends and I would play that in the programming lab instead of learning how to program in Cobal, time well spent me thinks.

It's going back some way, but the first few to spring to mind are:

Phantasmagoria

Noctropolis

Quantum Gate

Homeworld

Little Big Adventure 1 & 2

I'm sure there are many more!

I keep buying ones that I wanted to play but couldn't afford or had but fancied playing again when I see them on sale. Unfortunately now I have the money to buy them I don't have the time to play them!

Descent

C&C

Stunt Car Racer

Civ

Wolfenstine

Supercars 1 & 2

to name but a few

I used to play Stunts, which was similar to Stunt Car Racer, good times.

Games that stole the most time:

Duke Nukem 3D and the build editor. I even bought a book on it from The Works or similar discount bookstore. I still have the theme tune as my ring tone (the proper MIDI one, not the Megadeth cover, as wonderful as that version is).

Red Alert, including hours spent tweaking rules.ini. I intend to set Hell March as my ring tone when I get round to tweaking it in Audacity to shorten the intro :)

Theme Hospital has probably been played through a good dozen times. Dungeon Keeper almost as often.

Stars! You could never have a monitor big enough.

I knew the map of GTA1 off by heart.

And I had the Monkey Island trilogy in one big box that I got cheap from PC World because it had been water damaged. The smell of paper gone mouldy from water always reminds me of the Monkey Island 3 manual and takes me straight back to days of El Pollo Diablo and friends.

Unreal Tournament (still installed)

Half Life (still installed)

Counter Strike (still installed)

Need for Speed 3 and 4 (still installed)

GTA 3 (still installed), VC and SA

I like playing my old games, so they're all installed and working on my Windows 10 machine.
