Having to select which sound and graphics card the game would use and if yours wasn't listed praying that the default settings would do the job It also had the downside of making you realise just how poorly specced your PC was! Getting the game to work was often better than playing it, your "Soundblaster 32 Compatible" sound card was in today's terms, false advertising My eldest now cant comprehend when his minecraft save gets corrupted, in my day you had level code and like it! God I've suddenly got old!!

Novalee Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Ooo I loved Theme Hospital - which I replayed recently when Origin gave it away for free briefly. Only problem was you'd occasionally 'lose' with no apparent reason which was frustrating. Never completed it!

Movement, textures, everything For those 'youngsters' out there you had to remeber what a leap forwards this was. Also, it wasn't a standalone card, you had to run it in conjunction with your existing gfx card. IIRTC, the VooDoo Banshee was a standalone though. The VooDoo 3 was a big step up from this as well. It wasn't till they got silly and released the, frankly, ridiculous VooDoo 4 and 5 cards which were HUGE and had not more than a few problems that they went 'pop' as a company: [ATTACH=CONFIG]34904[/ATTACH] Then I discovered Nvidia and the frankly wonderful Geforce 2 card. Affordable and knocked spots off my VooDoo 2 Hey, I remember my Voodoo and looping through the standard graphics card, your making me feel old lol

For me, the memorables would have to be Doom ('nuff said) Command & Conquer (the whole series, but Red Alert really stood out for me) Diablo II (managed to complete it on max difficulty in melee - Assassins FTW!) Planescape: Torment (best western RPG ever - bar none) Tie Fighter (for the glory of the Empire - destroy EVERYTHING!) Civilisation II (lost days on end to this) Unreal Tournament (we played this during dinner break at an old site I used to work at) StarCraft (Kerrigan FTW!) Day of the Tentacle (brilliant point & click game) Discworld Noir (investigation - Ankh Morpork style) Syndicate & Syndicate Wars (police giving you trouble? pop a hand-held nuke through the station doors and walk away) X-Com: Enemy Unknown (need I say more)

Default aggression set to 1, (min level) but when you researched Democracy, which reduced all other's aggression to you by 2 he went into negative (not allowed) and the coding set him at the highest instead.

Then it was onto Doom, Duke Nukem and Descent. Think my first PC was an XT (CGA) hand me down from the company i worked for, played few sierra adventures leisure suit larry, space quest and indy 500. When i upgraded to a 286 (VGA) (another hand me down) progressed to x-wing and tie fighter.

3s-gtech Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Yeah I've played a fair bit of the Hot Pursuit reboot, not that impressed. NFS III is a far better game. Most Wanted 2005 was good until the last couple of wanted levels, when it became ridiculous!
