Getting the game to work was often better than playing it, your "Soundblaster 32 Compatible" sound card was in today's terms, false advertising :p

My eldest now cant comprehend when his minecraft save gets corrupted, in my day you had level code and like it! God I've suddenly got old!!

Did anyone actually have a proper sound blaster or Roland card?

I feel old too! :-( We found a 586 pc in a cupboard ages ago and it brings painful memories of my friend getting a 486 and trumping by 386sx

Kids today will never understand the pain of editing the dos scripts and decided wether to have a mouse or the CD-ROM as your 1mb of ram could not cope with both...

Yep, had a Soundblaster... but it wasn't all peaches and cream, the problems I always had were with the compatibility of the graphics card!

I remember my 486 having a turbo button that took the clock speed from 33 Mhz up to a dizzying 66 Mhz, that extra 33 Mhz made all the difference playing Doom.

I have a Soundblaster live 5.1 sat at home that doesn't have a driver that will work with windows 7 or above and every time I look for one everyone in forums keeps saying "don't you have onboard audio?" it does my head in

Still works on Linux. :) On my Gaming PC I have compromised and have a Terratec Aureon 7.1 USB sound card. Getting the sound hardware out of the PC case is half the battle and solves so many of the interference issues.

I just had a USB headset when I had my gaming PC, think it was a basic plantronics. Sounded ok to me, is there a big difference?

Never tried a trusty old SB Live on 7 or above but my lovely Auzentech/HDA X-plosion still works lovely from XP to 7 to 10, despite them going pop. I know that the SB Audigy 2, which is not a young card, works perfectly in 7 but not tried it in 10 yet. Not got a SB Live to test any more.
