What projector brands do you use and like?

There are an array of projector manufacturers in the market. What projectors do you like, use and buy?

We've had Epson projectors for a number of years now and always been happy with them. The bulbs usually last between 3000 and 4000 hours.

Inherited some Casio bulbless ones which had some pixel issues with but got repaired under warranty.

Epson and Hitachi wall mounted for me.

I love the two remote's for the hitachi's so we now have spares

in recent years I've stuck with NEC M230X's, they've been more reliable than any of the Epson/Hitachi/Sony projectors we've had in the past and they just work in place of virtually any projector, I havent looked at much else recently but have the other manufacturers also sorted their throw/zoom's? I remember at one point having to order a different replacement projector for each room due to the differences in mounting difference.

At home i use a Mitsubishi HC5500 and a Sanyo PLV-Z5.

 

Its a real shame that these brands don't exist any more as both these units are absolute workhorses.

Historically we bought Sanyo, but now buy NEC or EPSON.

We have BenQ and NEC at school now. We installed about 40 BenQ at Easter, so far so good. We do have a few rouge Toshiba Smartboard Unifi45 installs they are ok but the bulbs do not last.

We had NEC but now phasing them out for the Epson EB-X20 / EB-X27 / EB-X35 and carefully monitoring the hours, lx and lumens of the bulbs. Ive designed a database for this so teachers cant complain about how dim the bulbs are and it means we can compare old bulbs or compatible bulbs to originals.

We're a BenQ shop, all except a few exceptions where we have some Optoma, Epson, and Sony. Had one bad batch of projectors (MX660P) that all went out of focus, but other than that they've all been good. Few RMAs etc, no issues there either.

The DLP v LED debate is interesting.

It seems that DLP is the preferred technology for classrooms with static data (slides etc) and LCD/LED for motion video and for larger screen sizes.

 

However I seem to see more pixel failures with DLP?

 

What's your preference and why?

Epson for ceiling, the quick corner is the best thing ever. Hitachi for wallmount although they are a pain to fit and adjust, I can never get the image quite right even using the template.

Never touching DLP again, far too many failures with stuck pixels - LCD all the way for me.

After buying NEC DLP projectors and seen how the colours fail (not just on the bulb but on the colour wheel too) we are trying the LCD route to see what they do. We still have some NEC DLP projectors which were manufactured in 2006.

 

The trouble is budget, if i had more money we would look at replacing them alll but with less than 8k a year, what can you do eh?

 

With old projectors, we have decided to buy a new one if they fail, i guess thats the only way we can keep up with tech and means we dont have to worry for 3 years.

I'm with @Jamman960 on the NEC M230X. The biggest selling point to us on these was the differing rooms it can go in; we have a lot of rooms that have different size projected spaces, different ranges from projector to wall, incoming light etc... The NEC M230X solved all these problems by being flexible and offering a very high standard and bright image. The longevity seems to be decent too - I've had a few of these used every day for three years and not had to replace a lamp. Edited November 30, 2015 by Manny-Tech

Only ever use Epson projectors, love the quick corners facility to quickly create a straight image on the board. Remember a salesperson trying to flog me a projector (£10 cheaper) that didn't have that facility.. Just asked him whether he'd ever installed a ceiling mounted projector. Suggested he try it...

We moved to Casio LEDs about five years ago now, with the XJ-A1312 models. As has been mentioned on here they have some known issues however thankfully we haven't seen this affecting our fleet as much as others and as such they've been a big success. Last batch we bought were some of the eco model XJ-A132s and they've been flawless so far. The new Core interests me in terms of future purchases as well.

We have only purchased Epson projectors for the last 6 years, before that we had BENQ (DLP) ones, but these didn't seem to last very long. I really like the feature set on the Epson's and Quick Corners is amazing.

We recently put a EB-1985WU EUL into our Main Hall, and is fantastic! We were worried that it wouldn't be "man enough" for a Hall Projector, but it seems to cope brilliantly (we weren't allowed to spend any more money on it, otherwise we would have gone for a proper large format hall projector). It is nice and bright, lots of connectivity (including Miracast for teachers wanting to project from Android or i Devices (or laptops for that matter!).

We tried some Casio ones, didn't like them, quality of the image was pretty pants in comparison. Generally stick to Epson for everything now, albeit still a fair few old Hitachi's around.

Epson here primarily, couple of hitachi shirt throws, a Promethean and an nec here now, Epson nowadays with Eco do well over 5000 hours we find without breaking a sweat, more reliable now then the original s1h, s3, s4 that were in operation when I started here

Use and like are very different things.

 

We use Epson, NEC, Optoma, and Hitachi.

 

Hitachi have been awful. Casio have been less than reliable. Epson are pretty rock solid and Optoma are great for high brightness uses (school hall). NEC are a new punt as they have some nice looking offerings in the interactive ultra-short throw arena!

Epson for the ease of use. The quick corner and topside hatch for bulb replacement make life so much easier. And we have some legacy Dell DLPs that just keep going.

We've had Dell, Epson, Casio, NEC, Sanyo and Benq projectors. Epson are easily the most reliable of the projectors we've had and we've stopped being swayed by trying cheaper options that come along. It seems that most people are an Epson buyer/user, and I can see why as they offer a great range of projectors. I remember when I first saw the Epson Interactive projectors. I was lucky to be working in a school which was a new build where we had one in every room. At the start I was abit yeah ok they are going to be rubbish but boy how wrong was I.

 

Since Sanyo has disappeared, Epson has risen I would say more and more.

NEC seem to make some quite nice projectors and so surprised more people don't use them.

They may have improved but the dozen or so nec projectors I had didn't last without the lcd unit failing (lots of black and white spots appearing) and probably 7-8 of them were swapped out in the first 18 months due to that fault by nec. Can't fault their support though - they had a replacement to me the following day every time no questions asked.

They were all NP216 - I thought I may have been sent a faulty batch but their replacements all suffered with the same problem eventually.

We've since replaced almost all of them with epsons now (I think I have two left - one in biology and one in the old music suite)

I think we must have bought them in 2011 - we never replaced the bulb just the projector as we didn't think much of them due to the above.
