hiya We used to have this setup when we had physical servers But when we virtualised we asked Link2ICT to build CMIS for us rather than taking virtualising the physical machine and they insisted on a single server setup. We struggled for about 6 weeks with 32GB RAM and 1 processor, but it improved with second processor During the 6 weeks we wantd to go back but performance is okay now on single server setup.

we have shadow copy on our servers so by removing the right click students do not get the "restore previous versions" Mind you staff now have this and luckily have never noticed it :-)

no offence 36 degrees, we do not use names as they often change as the student goes up the school and we would have the equivelent of 42xJBloggs in each year group - every school is different.

Use the Expland an array functon in HP Smart array Configuation Utility. I used the notes on this website and although it took a weekend to add 1TB, all went well. (Server was able to carry on working throughtout) How can I expand or migrate a RAID set on a HP RAID Controller?

Have to agree with comments here. We rolled our Policy Central Server back 5 days as we ran out off hard drive space. All done during the school day with no effort. Imagine doing that with physical servers. Hardest thing was deleting the "live" server so we could restore it all cleanly. So disaster Recovery tested as well ... win win

Takes me back to industry when my taget was 99.3% on Windows servers, and Unix Manager got 99.9%, our Managing Director said they were unacceptable targets as all other departments were being targeted in the 80's, so Manager had to say and how many days a year do you not want access to email?

We were perceived negativly last year as server performance was poor, so I started reporting our SLA. But based it on school hours of 8:30am to 4pm while students are in school on a nice bar chart. Unsurprisingly these were good and even with a days downtime you were still reporting 21 days of good performance, so the statistics looked good. This goes into my report to SLT each month and our SLA is in the high 90, how can you be criticised for high 90's, it's only in IT Industry that they expect 99.99% ....

From discussion the SkyDrive is an end user product linked to hotmail not an education product linked to live@edu, so the data could be stored on any servers, not like live@edu which is stored in the EU (Irelend & Amsterdam) which has held me back from migrating my school.

Sorry we now have Full Virtualised our servers using VM Essentials with 3 hosts, each host has 32Gb so RAM is not a problem ;-)

Were given the following spec: Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit server 12GB Ram C Drive : 80Gb E Drive (data) : 300GB VM reporting we are using about 2GB of RAM

Link2ICT moved us to a virtualised server over the summer, took a day - easy peazy

Teachers, Students, Subjects and Class Lists are imported using Groupcall Xporter at the end of each day. We were told timetabling and attendance were working 2 years ago and are still waiting.
