Just started watching "Godless".....

 

Great start so far and yes it reminds me a little of "Lonesome Dove" another great mini series set in the Wild West....

 

Not everyone's cuppa-T but it deffo floats my boat....

Finished watching Netflix's Lost in Space last night.

 

Beyond there being a Robinson family, a robot that says "Danger, Will Robinson" at some point, a devious Dr. Smith and a Jupiter 2, there's not a whole lot that ties it to its movie namesake (and I can make no comparison about the 1960's TV series). But that's OK, you couldn't really stretch the movie out into a series anyhow.

 

This retelling follows the story of the somewhat dysfunctional Robinson family who leave a polluted, dying earth, as is to be expected. They are in command of the Jupiter 2, which is one of many Jupiter ships, with the intent to colonise alien worlds. But, as is often the case in these space dramas, $Something goes awry and they are forced to crash-land on a planet along with several of the other Jupiters.

 

The rewrite of Dr. Smith is especially fantastic, who goes from the movie's clichéd-and-obviously-evil-bad-guy to a much more subtle, and as a result incredibly more sinister and compelling, villain.

Given the longer screentime, the Robinson children are considerably more fleshed-out than in the movie. Will isn't just a brainy kid. Penny isn't just a teenage girl stereotype. Judy isn't just the medic with the crush on the anti-hero.

 

Overall, very enjoyable. A few 'Oh c'mon, really?' moments, but a healthy dose of, nail-biting, heart-wrenching or genuinely human moments more than makes up for it.

My Boy & I have just finished watching the Excellent Trollhunters on Netflix.

 

 

Superb series. Serious and funny in equal measure, with lovable characters, great action and a really good story.

Binged the last series of A Series of Unfortunate Events, great season, no song and dance numbers this time thankfully, and a satisfying ending, mostly.

 

Also Titans, really enjoyed it, even if the DC universe is darker than the inside pocket of my jacket. New series on Friday too.

Been bingewatching Criminal Minds recently.

Yeah, yeah, I know it's a drama, and Penelope Garcia's technological prowess is extremely exaggerated, but it's still not as bad as CSI They haven't done any technobabble even close to as bad as "I'll write a GUI interface using visual basic to track the killers IP address"

Supposedly (though I wouldn't have any personal experience) the profiling methods are accurate within reason for a television drama, or at least so says the internets.

Started this week on Gotham series 5. I saw one of the earlier series the other day and it was quite a shock to see the actor playing Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) standing next to James Gordon and how tall he has gotten compared to when he started the role.

Anyway, first episode was good stuff, looking forward to more of the same.

Started watching The Rookie this week.

 

Nathan Fillion is a rookie cop with the LAPD at the age of 40. Funny, serious and cleverly shot, it's part castle, part greys anatomy with cops. Good fun

Just finished The Handmaid's Tale S2.

 

Found that stuff didn't progress much past S1 - in fact there were obvious stretches to maintain the status quo with an eye on future seasons. At least Elizabeth Moss has added "blank-looking extreme close up with mouth closed" to her repertoire. Still find it hard to believe that the US could go from today (or maybe pre-Trump) to Gilead in 5 years or so, and found it hard to sympathise with Serena who appeared to have been one of the architects of the system.

EDIT: Watched episode one of Punished Season 2. Excite!!!

I agree on Titans, not a fan of the DC universe, but found this quite engaging, although uber-dark compared to the MCU.

Very strange show - supposedly set in the UK with British actors - but the whole ambiance is of a 1980s American High School - with the stock characters (bullies, jocks, geeks, mean girls etc) and people wandering round in letterman jackets and roughing people up by the lockers.

It's filmed in Wales, I looked it up because I was thinking - Everything looks and feels american but everyone has an english accent.

I stopped watching Vikings a while back at the beginning of Season 3 as the missus wasn't bothered with it anymore (after the blood eagle in season 2 she was feeling a bit jaded with all the gore).

So decided to start it again last week by myself and I remember now why I started watching it in the first place.

Needless to say that this morning I will be needing a few coffees as I completed season 3 last night. Really enjoying it.

 

Oh that and have started on Cleaning up. Only on Episode 2 but not liking the main character so far.

The Orville S2: Much of the same, apart from swapping the security officer out. The recent one with the planet that locked up everyone born under a certain astrological sign was particularly annoying. Why did no-one on the Orville point out that they were born on another planet and therefore not under that sign?

 

ST-Discovery S2: I enjoyed S1 and this seems even better. I really don't understand the "all action" criticism. It does feel fast-paced, but there are really only a couple of action sequences/episode.
