Just finished series 1 of The Death of Bunny Munro on Sky Atlantic. Having thought hard about it, my 2 word conclusion is sleazy claptrap. There are some impressive parts to it and it's mostly well 

 after and some of the sound track is excellent. I think I can see some of what it is trying to be, but I think it comes up short.

The rest of humanity is not hostile towards them at all, but do want to make them like themselves. It's very watchable, and the writing top notch. If you have Apple TV then I suggest you give it a shot.

Having watched the first five episodes I would say its Sci-fi, satire, Black comedy.

Very clever writing form Vince Gilligan , lots of red herrings.

But I've watched the series again as Episode 5 changes everything.... The clues have been there since the start!

Just watched the latest season 5 of Slow Horses on Apple TV. I think it's probably the best thing I've seen all year. Even better than last season; full of surprises and whip smart dialogue. Surprised there's anyone left in Slough House with the body count though. Mrs. SH and I are currently enjoying Smoke (also Apple TV) about arson investigators in America. Took a few episodes to get going but some fine acting and we are hooked now.

Dash & Lily (Netflix)

 

 

2020 Xmas-themed romcom series. Not sure why Netflix took so long to flag this as we both watch romcoms and Mme LeMarchand watches loads of the Xmas ones. We weren't wowed by the trailer which looked too teeny, but both ended up loving the show. Well worth a look if this sort of thing is up your alley.

Finished The War Between Land and Sea on iPlayer. Quite enjoyed it, though one character's beefed-up part immediately clued me into their fate. The final episode was a bit lacking, though. Plus I'm not convinced that Russell Tovey can act.

Home for Christmas S3 on Netflix. As the lead character had fallen in love by the end of S2, a third season of the romcom means that she has to be single again so her younger man (who has grown his hair and no longer looks like he belongs in  Nazi Youth brigade) turns out to want a family, which she doesn't. So Johanne is once again single at Christmas. It takes a while to set things up and the first few eps are only mildly amusing. Watched Ep 5 last night and it was laugh out loud funny. Mainly for an "encounter" between a Christmas ornament and a rat.

Finished Home For Christmas Season 3 and The Witcher Season 4 on Netflix.

 

The last 2 eps of "Home" really bring the feels and things finally start to work out for Johanne.

 

"Witcher" S4. I didn't really feel the loss of Henry Cavill, but the best ep was the one where Liam Hemsworth was absent (the battle against Vilgerfortz' army). I did feel that splitting the main 3 up for another season was a mistake.

Finally got around to finishing S7 of Black Mirror. This was a huge improvement for me. I particularly liked "Hotel Reverie" and the "USS Callister" sequel.

Have watched the first series of Younger on Netflix. Some laugh out loud moments in the first few episodes, less so as it went forward but still amusing as the story develops. A few sub plots seem to disappear, but for easy light hearted, yet edgy comedy, it fits the bill for a Sunday evening. Apparently another 6 series to go. so the story must develop quite a bit.

Watched the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend series finale. I've been putting this off for a few reasons: The preceding season had been pretty poor with hardly any memorable songs, plot lines and characters that I wasn't keen on moved to the foreground and I had a sneaky suspicion that it was all going to turn out to be Rebecca in a straightjacket having imagined the whole show. While it wasn't quite that dire, there still wasn't a decent song and they were explained as Rebecca going into a fugue state (which doesn't explain the songs that didn't involve her) and it went out with a whimper rather than a bang. Shame,  as it had been a great show.

Watched the first episode of Starfleet Academy on Paramount+
 

I don’t know. It wasn’t entirely awful. There were bits which made it look like there might be some potential but other bits that were questionable. The thing I really want to know is: why is the Klingon cadet so stilted? Not even the Disco Klingons were so stiff. I liked Gina Yashere’s character though, and Robert Picardo was as good as ever. 
 

I’ll keep going with it because it’s Star Trek and there hasn’t been one that’s defeated me yet.

I've become very hesitant with anything 'new' trek. 

 

Disco and the red angel story line damaged my hopes for trek, and didn't get any better with the whole dilithium storyline and time jump (I gave up after that).  Then the Section 31 film absolutely destroyed them.

 

Picard S1 was dreary, S2 was shocking, but at least S3 was a nice nostalgic hug. 

 

Strange New Worlds - neither love it or hate it. There's just something about it that I can't gel with. Maybe a little fatigued with the TOS era.

 

I enjoyed lower decks, I didn't think it was as great as some made it out to be, but it was decent.

 

The real gem was Prodigy, it's a shame we only got two seasons of that.

I've done with Trek I'm afraid. I have tried the newer stuff but I think I prefer the memories of the old stuff. (God I feel old thinking that DS9 was old stuff)

 

TBH I get more entertainment out of basement dwelling reviewers. Most are just negative about everything but they make me chuckle... and I listen to them in the car.

There is one thing I will say - they'd better bring back Tatiana Maslany in a meaningful fashion. She was criminally underused in the pilot. You can't have an actor of her calibre and just have her do three lines and 14 seconds of screen time.

 

I didn't like the casual swearing very much either. "Asshole 1 to Asshole 2"? “I'm Khionian, bitch”? I mean, come on. This isn't Breaking Bad and they're not Aaron Paul. That just didn't work.

 

But that aside, as I say, I think there's some potential there. I'll be watching ep2 later.

I stopped watching Star Trek after Discovery moved from Netflix - some time ago now! None of the trailers I've seen have made me thought it was worth forking out for Paramount+ for. Is there anything else on Paramount+ that might make it worthwhile?

My son uses it for Spongebob. I've watched Tulsa King on it, that was pretty good. Landman looks like it might be good too. I liked Your Honor with Bryan Cranston. If you like South Park, it's got that too.

 

Otherwise, I just sub to it when a new Star Trek comes out.

The New season of Dexter was quite Enjoyable

Finished Bookish on U. Written by and starring Mark Gatiss it features an ex Spy who runs a bookshop in post-war London and helps the police solve crimes. OK, but I only made it through one episode without drifting off at least once.

 

Also finished Murderbot on Apple. Didn't love it, but it was an OK 30 minute time filler.

Watched the first 2 "Starfleet Academies" and quite enjoyed them. Not as "teenage" as I had feared or the poster art suggested. Hopefully that will be the case going forward. I liked seeing background characters from Prodigy and Lower Decks, though I can hear the haters crying "memberberries" without even going to where they tend to congregate.
