Tilly left Discovery to be an instructor at the "newly formed" academy but, IIRC, Jett was still there. However we've seen Jett but not Tilly (yet). The main group are supposed to be the first class. The "War Academy" why would they rename the academy? I get that during The Burn they might not emphasise some of Starfleet's teachings, but why the rename? (Apart from needing an equivalent for Slytherine). Are the kids going to have to get down to their undercrackers in every episode? Why didn't they program Holo-girl's avatar to be less clutzy? Why does a hologram need a physical team uniform, or a shower? Did Holly Hunter know that she's likely to attract attention from foot fetishists?

Dos_Box Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Just getting towards the end of the first season of Shrinking on Apple TV, and loving it. A great cast and genuine laugh-out-loud moments in there. The first two episodes are the weakest I think, but they are establishing characters, and given the grimness of some of the characters stories, you'll just have to power through them.

If you have Apple TV then I suggest you give it a shot. Just started watching this last week. Might have 3 episodes left, really enjoying it.
LeMarchand Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Wonder Man (Disney+) 2 episodes in and so far quite enjoyable. We've only had a brief flash of what "Wonder Man" can actually do and it's mainly a showbiz comedy with a lot of name drops. Episode 2 had Joe Pantoliano sending himself up and revealed that Trevor Slattery (the former Mandarin) played some of Ben Kingsley's more obscure roles (Corrie, Turtle Diary) though presumably none of the big ones or he wouldn't keep going on about his "Lear" in Croydon. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Sky) The first three episodes were enjoyable but the fourth was totally gripping as the stakes were considerably raised.

Episode 5 is an absolute tonal whiplash, and back to what you'd more likely expect from the parent shows. Probably my favourite episode of the lot so far, mind!

Really liking this, much like detectorists, you have identifiable characters, a gentle story and even though some are complaining it plods, it moves at the pace it needs to.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted February 23 Posted February 23 We have just finished watching the entirety of The League of Gentlemen from start to finish. That's all three series, all the live shows, the anniversary specials and every commentary and documentary that's out there. It was quite the journey and it remains largely excellent throughout. It's a wild ride though as they're so far ahead of their time on certain issues and remarkably off key (looking at you, papa lazarou) on others! It was still thoroughly enjoyable. Especially the panto live show which was brilliant.

Tried this; wasn't impressed. Mind you, I didn't like The Detectorists, though at least this time (so far?) there aren't unfeasibly attractive women attracted to the guys. Maybe I'm just not into MC's humour. Also, I'm sure there was a book (by Tom Holt or Robert Rankin?) that covered similar ground with the homunculi idea but I can't remember the title. Going to try a couple more eps though.

The first series was very emotional towards the end. The second series has also been done amazingly well to allow for the continuation of the story past it's 'original' end point.

I still will, as I often find myself disagreeing with 'professional' reviewers (and a large portion of the viewing public too it would appear), but yeah ... not a great start.

ICTDirect_Dave Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Really enjoying starfleet Academy. Episode 5 was a glorious tribute to the legacy of Benjamin Sisko. It's a little high school/college in places but I really appreciate that. These are kids learning to become the exceptional Starfleet officers we're used to seeing and it's great to see some personality.
